42. Performance Update - Quarter Four 2011/12 (January 2012 to March
2012)
The Committee considered the report on the progress made by the Council in delivering the
Areas of Focus and Measures of Accountability (relevant to the Committee) as set out within
the Corporate Business Plan 2011/15.
The Assistant Director (Communities) highlighted the following key areas of improvement:
Business & Partnerships Committee 21.05.2012
• CBP 8 – To involve 10,000 people through Active Gravesham, summer holiday
programme and Go Gravesham activities each year.
The Committee considered the following areas for review:-
• CBP 6 – To increase the swimming usage at the leisure centres by 3 per cent (from
the 2010/11 baseline) by 2014/15;
• CBP 12 – Sustain highest level of attendance at Heritage attractions – Chantry
Heritage Centre/New Fort and Civil Defence Bunker.
The Chair, in noting the report also put forward the following suggestions as to how to the
presentation of the quarterly reports can be improved for greater clarity and information:-
• provide a definition of the ‘users’ e.g. for gym and swimming usage;
• examine the limitations of the current data software e.g. inability to show an accurate
% where the outturn is greater than 200 per cent;
• present quarterly figures as numerical (in a new column) as well as cumulative so
that the progress made in each individual quarter is clear;
• present the data in a simplified format;
• investigate whether a detailed breakdown of the figures is possible (e.g. age, sex of
‘users’) and present this information below the data.
The Chair also summarised the following suggestions and requests for information made by
the Cabinet Committee:-
• forward feedback to the Committee on the outcome of the ‘multi-agency meeting’
mentioned under the following area of focus: 10 - Promoting healthy lifestyles
amongst young people;
• offer suggestions and ideas as to how the volunteers of the Civil Defence Bunker
(New Tavern Fort) attraction can be better supported and improve marketing and
signage to the Bunker;
• draw a plan of action once all data is received/presented to consider what action can
be taken in the light of these figures;
• consider the use of a feedback portal for the public, made available via the
Gravesham Borough Council website for public opinion on Gravesham Borough
Council actions and events.
Close of meeting
The meeting ended at 8.34 pm.
