<strong>Breda</strong> Ba.27: Available 1934. Initial prototype of mixed construction (5/7<br />
damage). Same engine with 2-blade wooden prop (-1 power in all bands).<br />
Pilot seat far back along fuselage (cockpit view: Poor).<br />
<strong>Breda</strong> <strong>Ba.27M</strong>: Available 1936. This all-metal (M for Metallico), braced<br />
monoplane fighter resembled the US P-26 Peashooter, but was of inferior<br />
performance. They were (briefly) stablemates in China, where the <strong>Ba.27M</strong><br />
equipped the 29th squadron of the 3rd Fighter Group in 1936, while the other<br />
two squarons were equipped with P-26s. The Regia Aeronautica passed, as<br />
there was not enough improvement over the contenporary CR.32. 18 ordered<br />
by China, but only 11 were delivered and assembled at the SIWAH plant in<br />
China. Telescopic sight, fixed gear, open cockpit.<br />

SIAI Amrosini S.S.4: Available June 1939. Canard-pusher fighter design<br />
similar to US P-55 Ascender or Japanese J7W (but flown years earlier). Test<br />
flights showed definite advantages to this design, including good maneuverability,<br />
but in 1939, the RA’s design board was satisfied with its CR.42<br />
biplane, and were put off by the comparative difficulty in manufacturing the<br />
SS4 due to its all-metal construction and odd metal shapes. When the sole<br />
example crashed when landing after an engine failure, the program lapsed.<br />
Armament was probably never mounted; certainly the RA did not use a<br />
20mm or 30mm cannon at the time.<br />
Canard: Pull transitions and positive G turns can be made at 0.5 speed less<br />
than listed minimum speed.<br />
Engine in Rear: Reverse the critical hit location mods related to angle.<br />

in the fuselage - fighter design developed for high maneuverability. Testflown<br />
for about 6 months starting in mid-1942. Design looked viable,but test<br />
program and production preparation slowed during 1943 and ended at surrender.<br />
