continuing pa)'nent <strong>of</strong> benefits<br />

In all cases <strong>of</strong> serious injury or disease, especially those requiring hospital treatment<br />

or prolonged care, OWCP rvill request detailed narrative reports from the attending<br />

physician at periodic inten,als. The ph1'sician w-ill be asked to describe continuing<br />

medical treatment for the condition accepted by OWCP, a prognosis, a description <strong>of</strong><br />

rvork limitations. if any, and the physician's opinion as to the continuing causal<br />

relationship betu'een the employee's condition and factors <strong>of</strong> his or her Federal<br />

emplovment.<br />

Sec. 10.<strong>33</strong>i What additional nredical information will O\\/CP require to support a<br />

clair-n for a schedule award<br />

To sr.rpport a claim for a schedule au'ard. a medical report must contain accurate<br />

rreasurements <strong>of</strong> the function <strong>of</strong> the organ or member. in accordance with the American<br />

N{edical Association's Guides to the Evaluation <strong>of</strong> Permanent Impairment. These<br />

measurements mav include: The actual degree <strong>of</strong> loss <strong>of</strong> actil'e or passive motion or<br />

defonnir.v; the amount <strong>of</strong> atrophy; the decrease. if any. in strength: the disturbance <strong>of</strong><br />

se nsation; and pain due to nerve impaim-rent.<br />

Sec. 10.<strong>33</strong>5 How are medical bills submitted<br />

Usually, medical providers submit biils directly to OWCP. 'fhe rules for submitting<br />

and paf ing biils are stared in subpart I <strong>of</strong> this pzrt. An emplol''ee claiming<br />

reimbursement <strong>of</strong> medical expenseshouid submit an itemized biil as described in Sec.<br />

10.802.<br />

Sec. 10.<strong>33</strong>6 What are the time frames for submitting bills<br />

To be colsidered for pa1,ment. bills must be submitted by the end <strong>of</strong> the caiendar year<br />

after the r,ear when the expense was incurred. or by the end <strong>of</strong> the calendar yea-r after the<br />

1,ear when OWCP first accepted the claim as compensable. n'hichever is later.<br />
