The annual pantomime staged by Dursley Operatic & Dramatic Society (DODS) has
been providing family entertainment for the last 17 years. This imaginative and highly
regarded group has covered stories from ‘Cinderella’ to ‘Frankenstein the Panto!’ and
many of these shows have been critically acclaimed with Rose Bowl nominations. This
year’s production is a highly inventive version of the classic ‘Aladdin’. There is the
usual delightful mixture of traditional baddies to boo, heroes to cheer and thighs to
slap, in a story that will have children over their post Christmas blues in no time, with
plenty for the adults to laugh at too. As the programme says: “Will Aladdin be able
to rescue his Princess and live happily ever after We’ll soon find out…
Clap and cheer, hiss and boo. Do whatever you must do,
Sit back, relax, you’ve paid your fee, it’s Panto time in Old Durs Ree…”
If you are fed up after Christmas and want to get away from the January Blues call
DODS or come along to Kingshill House on Tuesday evenings. People who can act,
sing, dance and wield a saw or paintbrush – not necessarily all at the same time - are
always in demand! Someone who might like to manage front-of-house activities
during productions is particularly needed.
