1985
Patricia Cinadr Lombardi and husband, Tony,
welcomed their first child on November 17,
2007. Giovanna Mary Lombardi was born in New
York City and weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. She was
20 1/2” long. Proud aunts are Debbie Cinadr
Paden ’89 and Susan Cinadr ’95.
1988
Caren de la Cruz and Michael Pickering welcomed
Lucy on April 1, 2006 at their home in
Portland, Oregon. Big brother Owen was on
hand and helped get clothes and diapers for his
new sister.
1995
Mark Seifried, and wife, Katie, are pleased to
announce the birth of their first child: Thomas
Matthew was born on December 8, 2007.
Thomas is the nephew of Melissa Seified Rus ’91
and Michael Seifried ’01.
1998
Diana Krivanek Jacobs, along with her husband,
Bob, would like to announce the birth of their
first child, a son. Carter James Jacobs was born
October 27, 2007.

NOTRE DAME ACADEMY:
Sr. Mary Elise Krantz, SND died
December 25, 2007. She was 93 years old
and completing the 74th year of religious
profession. Sister taught religion, English
and math classes from 1938 to 1944 at
Notre Dame Academy. Sister Mary Elise
served as the provincial of the Chardon
Province.
Donna Lisa Morgante ’80 passed away in
September, 2007. Lisa was the sister of
Maria Morgante Lanese ’75 and cousin
to Linda Fusco Zevnik ’78.
Ian Zachary Hull, age 20, passed away on
September 30, 2007 as a result of complications
from non-Hodgkins lymphoma .
He was the beloved son of Peggy Volzer
Hull ’78 and cherished nephew of Judy
Volzer Conte ’80.
Virginia Mazzolini Borsani, ’37 passed
away on December 30, 2007. Her daughter,
Mary, told us that December 30th
was also her 89th birthday.
Melvin H. Kurtz passed away on January
5, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 59
years, Dolores Brow Kurtz ’48.
Carol Zore Laurie ’75 told us that on
Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007,
her husband, Jim, passed away in his
sleep. He wasn’t sick and had just
recently celebrated his 53rd birthday.
Carol said they had five children and six
grandchildren.
Rose Seiler, the mother of Sue Seiler
Fishman ’72, passed away recently.
Sam Perrotti, beloved father of Sandy
Perrotti Dunphy ’74, passed away in
December 2007.
Helen Bacon passed away in January
2008. She was the mother of Victoria
Bacon DeBalko ’66 and Mary Bacon
Artino ’74.
Agnes Modic passed away on January 7,
2008. She was the mother of Marie
Modic ’57.
Irene Medvecky Kocak ’48 passed away
in December 2007.
Mary Lou Velotta Macarine ’53 passed
away on October 20, 2007. She was the
grandmother of Robert Marlowe ’07.
Jane Burchfield Kauffman ’55 wrote to
us to advise that her friend and classmate,
Loretta Miller Dakters ’55 passed
away in Florida on December 3, 2007 and
was buried from St. Jude Church in
Elyria. (Jane said they had a close group
of seven friends and now have lost two
within the past few months.)
Ralph Gilfether passed away on
December 7, 2007. He was the beloved
father of Theresa Gilfether Phifer ’72.
Beverly Ruth O’Brien passed away on
November 2, 2007. She will be greatly
missed by all of her loving family including
her daughter, Donna O’Brien Smith
’78; daughter-in-law, Linda Cappelli
O’Brien ’67; nephew, Jim Weiler ’73;
granddaughters, Dawn Cappelli ’89 and
Nicole Cappelli ’92 and nephew, Anthony
Ventimiglia ’93.
John F. O’Hair ’34 passed away on
February 17, 2008. John was the uncle of
Deane Brown ’50, James P. O’Hair ’50,
Patricia O’Hair Kekelis ’51and Margaret
O’Hair Reardon ’53.
Anton Potokar, Sr. the father of Jean
Potokar Dreis ’59, Joan Potokar Jackson
’59, Janet Potokar Hanley ’60 and Judy
Potokar Erni ’66 passed away. He was
also father-in-law to Gisela Weiss
Potokar ’61.
Shirlee Scott Needles ’52 passed away
in February ’08. Her death was reported
to us by her friend and classmate,
Audrey Hubeny Dvorak ’52.
Anthony “Pete” Pietrantone, beloved
husband of Marlene Formica Pietrantone
’52, passed away on January 30, 2008.
Eleanore Janecek Brom ’29 passed away
in February 2008 at the age of 96. May
she rest in peace.
Terese Kinsella Albee ’43 passed away
recently. She now joins her sisters, Mary
Kinsella Gusdane ’33 and Colette
Kinsella Griffin ’35 plus her brother,
Ralph Kinsella ’37 who all pre-deceased
her. She is survived by her daughter,
Kathy Albee Traxler ’68.
Marietta Purpura passed away in
February 2008. She was the mother of
Deana Purpura Kelly ’73 and Patricia
Purpura ’75.

Michael Todd ’76 passed away January
8, 2008.
Frances A. Noetzel passed away on
January 1, 2008. She is survived by her
husband of 63 years, Justin R. Noetzel ’36.
Robert M. Debevec ’36 passed away
passed away on December 11, 2007. He
is survived by his daughters, Barbara
Debevec Gorka ’71 and Diane Debevec
’76. He also leaves behind his brother,
Ralph Debevec ’39.
The family of John Jancsurak ’45 has
advised that he passed away on August
27, 2007.
Joseph M. Turk ’38 passed away on
November 16, 2007 at the age of 87.
Robert J. Parker ’48 passed away on
January 6, 2008. Bob was the brother of
David Parker ’50 (deceased) and Larry
Parker ’52.
Henry “Hank” Nowak ’37, age 90, passed
away in February 2008. In recent years,
Hank’s family had brought him out to the
NDCL campus for various programs
which he enjoyed immensely.
John F. O’Hair ’34 passed away on
February 17, 2008. John was the uncle of
Deane Brown ’50, James P. O’Hair ’50,
Patricia O’Hair Kekelis ’51 and Margaret
O’Hair Reardon ’53.
Erwin (Donald) Macko ’47 passed away
on November 29, 2007. He had been married
to Patricia for 55 years and had five
children and eight grandchildren. Harold
Sheehan and Richard Sheehan (both
deceased) were his brothers-in-law and
were also CLS alumni.
Julia Burke, age 91 passed away on
January 18, 2008. Mrs. Burke was the
loving mother of Joseph Burke ’66,
James Burke ’67, and Kevin Burke ’77.
She was also the mother of Sr. Maureen
Burke, SND, principal of Regina High
School.
Marjorie McMonagle passed away in
January 2008. She was the mother of Tim
McMonagle ’63 and Elizabeth
McMonagle ’69. She was also a loving
grandmother to Bridget Murphy DeSocio
’92, Tim Murphy ’96 and Christopher
Murphy ’99.
Nick Orlando, Sr. ’56 passed away on
January 9, 2008 in Naples, Florida. He
had recently signed on as a member of
the NDCL Capital Campaign Cabinet and
his participation and influence will be
sorely missed within the school community.
Among his survivors are his brothers,
Chester “Sonny” Orlando ’59 and John C.
Orlando ’64.
Robert “Bob” Lally ’46 passed away on
January 12, 2008 of complications from
Parkinson’s disease. Aside from his fame
as a Cathedral Latin and University of
Notre Dame football player, he was a loving
husband, father and stepfather to 16
children. He is survived by his brothers,
Tom Lally ’49 and Jim Lally ’59. He also
had four of his sons at Cathedral Latin:
Charles Lally ’68, Kevin Lally ’72, James
Lally ’74 and Mike Lally.

Please remember William Schmich ’98
who died suddenly on February 18, 2008.
Will had three sisters who are also NDCL
alums: Lori Schmich ’93, Jennifer
Schmich ’94 and Kristen Schmich ’96.
Please remember in prayer, Helen Zakas,
who passed away in February 2007. Mrs.
Zakas was the mother of Pamela Zakas
Kobie ’68, Joelle Zakas Earle ’73 and
Judith Zakas Steiger, the mother of NDCL
freshman Kristin Steiger.
