Ron Brant and I went to Burkesville, KY last
week to meet with the Tourism Commission.
The good news is that they are talking about
Showers and I’m hoping they will be ready for
this coming Rally in May. I will find out about
that later, if it happens. Bringing that up, I will
keep reminding you about the Rally until it is
time for it. May 18 th through the 20 th . I hope
all of you are planning to be there to support
the Club and also help out if needed. Ron is
doing a great job of getting things organized
and making sure things will work right. The
Tourism Commission is looking forward to our
Rally because it is the big event for their town.
They really treat us well and give us a pretty
big budget to follow as well.
The next meeting will be at Bloodworth’s and
hopefully some of you will have some reports on
the Daytona Week and race. I know several of
you went and we missed you at the last meeting.
Let us know if you had as much fun as we did
at our last meeting. Hope to see you then.

The 35th Annual BMW Motorcycle Owners of
America International Rally will be held on the
southern edge of West Bend, Wisconsin. The dates
are Thursday through Sunday morning, July 12 -
15th. The rally site - the Washington County Fair
Park - is located smack in the middle of this 125-
mile route that stretches from Whitewater Lake in
the south to Elkhart Lake at the northern tip. It is a

Open House and the Ducati Demo Truck is
Coming to Bloodworth Motorcycles
Bloodworth Motorcycles will be hosting the Ducati Demo
Truck on April 14 at the dealership. Come see the latest
in the Ducati line up and sign up for demo rides on
Saturday. Food and beverage will be available during
the day. On Sunday, April 15 th , Bloodworth Motorcycles
will host a Ducati ride to the Riverview Restaurant in
Ashland City for Lunch. The group will leave Bloodworth

The Alphabet Challenge
The BMW Motorcycle Club of Nashville

The objective of this Challenge is to visit
Tennessee cities (incorporated or unincorporated)
whose name begins with each letter of the
alphabet. This is not a competition or race. This
is an individual endeavor with goals set by you.
The rules are simple! Just visit as many cities as
you can during the Challenge period. The
Challenge ends two weeks prior to the Club
Christmas Dinner.
Documentation of your visit consists of a
completed Challenge worksheet and either a
picture of you and your bike OR a picture of your
bike in front of an appropriate landmark (city limit
sign, post office, etc.). All documentation must be
received prior to the end of the Challenge. The
Challenge is open to members of BMWMCON.
Your successful completion of this Challenge will
be recognized at the Christmas Dinner.

This year’s event, the 8 th CCR, will be at the Tan-Tar-A
Resort in Lake of the Ozarks, MO, from August 28 th
to September 1, 2007, which promises to be another
spectacular location and resort. If you like golf or
boating or just laying by the pool, you’ll love this place.
Oh, and great riding, too. If you’ve ever thought about
this type of rally, I would encourage you to sign up soon
because every year it sells out. Because they do plan
group dinners they limit the number of attendees to
about 600. This year’s event registration will set you
back $139 pp. That’s about $35 per day. And the room
rates are a very reasonable $89 per night. A little pricier
than any other rallies, but well worth it, given the
location, included meals, and amenities. Think of it more
as a great vacation than just a rally. Your SO will love
you for it.

Michigan State Police evaluates police bikes
Motorcycle guys are more than willing to defend the merits of their specific brands,
but it’s not often that you get fair, unbiased testing conducted by a state agency that
actually lays out money for the vehicles. The Michigan State Police recently made
such testing public, as it embarked upon an evaluation program for its upcoming
purchase of a fleet of motorcycles.
The Harley Davidson Road King and FLHTP were evaluated against the BMW
R1200RT-P. All three bikes are the most commonly used police machines in the
country. Michigan State Police evaluated the motorcycles' performance in handling,
braking, acceleration and top speed, as well as the ability to cope with all the special
communications and emergency warning needs of the Michigan State Police. Tests
were conducted at the DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan.
The results of the testing were dramatic. The BMW was able to negotiate the nineturn,
six-lap handling course as much as 32 seconds faster than the FLHTP Electra
Glide. Acceleration and top speed tests also went to the BMW, which achieved a top
speed of 130 mph, vs. Harley Davidson's 103 and 107 top speeds. In the quarter
mile, the BMW accelerated at least a second and a half faster than the Harley, at a
speed 8-mph faster. From 60 miles per hour, the BMW stopped an amazing 21 feet
sooner than either of the Harley Davidsons, or approximately a car-length and a half.

Walking England - A Coast to
Coast Adventure
(aka: England's Ultimate Pub Crawl)
Monday - March 26, 2007 - 7:00 pm
Tennessee Trails Association Member, Diane
Manas, shares her experience walking across
England. In 2003, Diane and husband, Z, slackpacked
England's Coast-to-Coast Walk (C2C),
staying in B & B's and enjoying the local drafts
along the way. The C2C is nearly 200 miles in
length, beginning in the small village of St. Bees
near the Irish Sea. Travelling from west to east,
with the wind at their back (at least that's what the
brochure says), the C2C crosses three national parks
- undoubtedly some of England's finest scenery.
The pat! h rolls through several private
farms/estates, as well as several historical areas.
The walk does include some roadways and ends at
the North Sea in the quaint village of Robin Hood's
Bay.
Diane shares memories and photos of this delightful
journey, and explains how you can plan your own
slack-pack adventure across the English
countryside.

Bmw Motorcycles Around The World
The BMW Around the World Relay is now in Australia, where four new riders (J. Bellmunt, J.
Domingo, J. Fabregas and G. Sole) are making their way from Sydney in New South Wales (on
the south-east coast) to the city of Cairns in Queensland, a ride of about 2,500
kilometers on the most direct routes.
However, the Vuelta Al Mundo riders never take the most direct route and will ride closer to 4,000
kilometers on their two-week lap because each stage (of between 3,000 and 6,000 kilometers) of
this amazing relay has been designed to link places that are of considerable significance in terms
of history, adventure, nature, art and culture.
Furthermore, the teams of riders have been encouraged to choose their own routes between
cities, as well as researching the country that they are riding in, including its attractions, culture,
and customs. With this stage of the trip including many world-famous tourist hot-spots such as
Sydney Harbour, Bondi Beach, The Great Dividing Range, Cape York Peninsula, The Gold Coast,
The Great Barrier Reef and even tropical rainforests, it's no surprise that the Round the World
Relay riders will be stopping off at a few places en route.
The good news for followers of this 150,000-kilometer ride that will cross five continents is that
a live tracking function for the relay is now online that can be accessed from the home page of
the www.vueltalmundobmw.com website. This will allow browsers to pinpoint the exact location of
the riders via Google Earth, as well as see their altitude and current speed.
"This tracking system is a fantastic way of keeping in touch with how our riders are doing,"
commented Vuelta Mundo organiser Gerardo Seeliger. "The trip has so far been an unbelievable
success, despite the challenges of the terrain and varying amounts of 'bureaucracy' in the different
culture. However, long-distance travel teaches you persistence, determination, patience, flexibility
and diplomacy - not to mention riding skills!
"We have five Australian stages of this journey that started five days ago and the exact route
through Australia will go from Sydney to Cairns, then Darwin, Adelaide and Perth before returning
to Sydney on 10 May. There are four riders on each stage and although the bikes have now done
80,000 kilometers, they are in very good shape mechanically, albeit a little bit battered after some
rough stages in the Andes! The riders are in contact with some BMW Clubs in Australia and have
also met with John Bertrand, the Aussie hero winner of the Americas Cup in 1983 (ending 132
years of American supremacy) who is also a passionate BMW rider."
The relay had also planned to visit New Zealand but due to time and quarantine constraints, this
has not been possible, so the south-east Asian leg of the relay from Islamabad in Pakistan to
Dunhuang in the Gansu province of China will take place from 31May to 13 June.
Tthe next five stages of the relay are as follows: Sydney to Cairns (22 Feb - 06 March); Cairns to
Darwin (8 - 21 March); Darwin to Adelaide (24 March - 08 April) Adelaide to Perth (11 - 25 April);

Subject: [BMWMc] BMWONS Annual Safe Riding Reminder
Spring has sprung (Well, almost)! Happy Vernal Equinox. For all you riders who have taken the winter off, it's time to
start thinking defensive riding again. With this in mind, I am posting the annual reminder the BMW
Owners of Nova Scotia club sends to our members.
Distribute it, copy it, pass it around to all your friends...just give credit to the BMWONS, please.
WORDS TO SURVIVE BY
1. KNOW AND BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE INVISIBLE TO ALL OTHER DRIVERS.
2. When approaching any intersection, assume cars traveling in the opposite direction are going to turn left and run
over you. Be prepared to take evasive action.
3. ALWAYS-ALWAYS have an escape route out of a situation to avoid the consequences of other peoples' mistakes.
Keep looking for the gap that you can use when someone else screws up.
4. Adjust your speed to your reaction time. At the end of a tiring day it will be much longer than it was on the way to
work at 8:00AM, so ride with bigger safety margins.
5. Check BOTH directions when the light turns green. Sooner or later someone will run that red light and run into you.
6. Drivers who are using their cellular phones are not using their brains. Watch out for them.
7. Mirrors are important. If they don't show anything but your elbows, buy some that do. Always use your mirrors.
8. Use other people's mirrors, too. Look into the mirror of the car in front of you. That way you can see where they are
looking, and how attentive they are. If you can see them, chances are better that they can see you.
9. Trucks and vans often have a hard time checking their right side blind spot, and if you can’t see the truck mirrors,
the driver can’t see you in the mirror.
10. Slippery oil, antifreeze, and ATF look like water, particularly in low light. Try to avoid all wet spots, but if you can't,
ride over them smoothly.
11. Check under (behind) parked cars. Those legs you see belong to a child who may run out in front of you.
12. Anticipate the moves of other vehicles. Drivers don't always use their turn signals in traffic, but you MAY be
able to tell where they are going by watching their heads turn just before they change lanes.
13. Treat all metal surfaces - train rails, bridge gratings, manhole covers - with the utmost respect. They offer very little
traction when dry, and almost none when wet. Ride over them as smoothly as possible.
14. Ride in a gear that will allow you to accelerate quickly if you need to get out of a tight spot.
15. Never lose your temper when riding...If you do, STOP, take a breather, then resume your ride.
16. Always be on the lookout for, and expect, the unexpected.
17. Avoid racing with other motorists.
18. IF YOU'RE NOT SURE, DON'T!

On Sunday, many of us got up early, had breakfast at
the Ruth Cris Steak House and went back over to the
IMS. We all gathered back at the lobby at noon to load
up the bus and head home.
An Unbelievable Time at The Atlanta
Cycle World International
Motorcycle Show Excursion
The Bloodworth Motorcycles Excursion to the Cycle
World International Motorcycle Show was a huge
success. The group met up at Bloodworth Motorcycles
on Saturday morning, February 24 and boarded the
bus at 7am. Everyone enjoyed food and beverage as
we traveled down I-24 and I-75 to Atlanta. For the most
part, the trip down was uneventful with the exception of
a guy in the pickup truck that went from the left lane
across in front of us over to the exit ramp, thought the
yellow section of the ramp, almost wrecking us and
throwing gravel all over the front of the bus. Upon
arriving at the Embassy Suites and finally getting
parked, we unloaded the bus and went into the hotel
where we were met by Danny Carson from Ducati who
had our special Ducati credentials to get into the IMS.
We left our bags with the Bell Service and headed over
to the World Congress Center to take in the IMS.
Around 5:30pm, we all gathered back up over at the
Embassy Suites and went to a special Ducati reception
hosted by Ducati. In addition to the beer and wine, we
enjoyed a great selection of appetizers and were given
a special goodie bag full of fun gifts, including a special
event t-shirt.
After the reception, folks grabbed a bite of dinner and
then headed over to the Supercross at the Georgia
Dome. The spectacle of this event equals that of a
Superbowl, maybe with the exception of the lose boob.
The racing was awesome and it was neat to see Ricky
Carmichael’s (the winingest Supercross racer ever)
take his final competitive ride at the Georgia Dome.

The response from the participants and from Ducati,
lead us to believe that we will be making this journey
again. So you better mark your calendar for that time
next year.
