<strong>Vestavia</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> High School Cheerleader Program<br />

Squads:<br />

<strong>Varsity</strong> <strong>Cheerleaders</strong>- (eleventh and twelfth grade) The varsity cheerleaders cheer for<br />

varsity football.<br />

Junior <strong>Varsity</strong> <strong>Cheerleaders</strong> - (sophomores) The junior varsity cheerleaders will cheer for<br />

football and basketball.<br />

Freshmen <strong>Cheerleaders</strong>- (freshmen) The freshmen cheerleaders will cheer for freshmen<br />

football and basketball.<br />

Competition Squad- All freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity cheerleaders must participate<br />

on the competition squad. This squad competes at two-three competitions per year.<br />

Practice times, competition dates, etc. will be discussed with individuals prior to tryouts.<br />

Cheerleader Clinic and Tryouts:<br />

Mon., Tues., Wed, Thurs March 26, 27, 28, 29<br />

Required clinic for all trying out for cheerleader.<br />

Time: 3:30-5:30<br />

Friday, March 30 Tryouts, grades 8-11<br />

Time: 3:30 –around 7:30<br />

Tryout Fee/Physical:<br />

$20 (A CD with dance music will be provided).<br />

Everyone must have completed a physical and turned in<br />

the attached form before you are allowed to tryout.<br />

Additional Information:<br />

o Please consider the following information before making the decision to try out.<br />

o Practice- Attendance to all practices is mandatory. A meeting will be held after<br />

tryouts to further discuss spring practice dates and times. Cheerleader practice will<br />

resume approximately two weeks prior to the start of school.<br />

o Camp- All varsity cheerleaders must attend a Universal Cheerleader Association<br />

camp in the summer. The cost is approximately $ 400.<br />

o Expenses- All elected cheerleaders will pay their own expenses for camp, uniforms<br />

competition, etc. (estimated $600-$1,000). Fundraisers will be held to defray the<br />

cost.<br />

o Transportation- Parents must provide transportation for all cheerleading events<br />

when needed unless a bus is arranged by the sponsor.<br />

o Grades: All cheerleaders must maintain an overall C average.<br />

***ALL APPLICANTS MUST TURN IN A CURRENT REPORT CARD .<br />

A CURRENT PHYSICAL FORM MUST BE ON FILE WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL THE<br />

PHYSICAL MUST BE COMPLETED ON THE AHSAA PHYSICAL FORM THAT IS<br />

ATTACHED. NO OTHER FORMS ARE ALLOWED.


TRYOUT INFORMATION<br />

What to Wear: Everyone must wear navy shorts, a plain white shirt, and white<br />

cheerleading shoes for tryouts. Hair must be in a ponytail with a white ribbon.<br />

Score Sheet<br />

Cheers-20 points<br />

o One individual cheer -a back handspring will be performed during cheer (10 points)<br />

o One group cheer (10 points)<br />

Jumps-20 points<br />

o Optional Jump-(10 points)<br />

o Toe Touch-(10 points)<br />

Dance- 20 points<br />

Tumbling- 20 points<br />

o one standing skill (10 pts)<br />

o one tumbling pass (10 pts).<br />

Points will be given according to the difficulty and quality of the skill as determined by the<br />

judges.<br />

Stunting- 20 points<br />

<strong>Varsity</strong> /Junior <strong>Varsity</strong><br />

o Required Stunt- Ground up Extension/Full Down/Cradle ( 5points)<br />

o Optional Stunt-(15points)<br />

Freshmen<br />

o Required Stunt- Elevator/Pop Cradle (5 points)<br />

o Optional Stunt (15 points)<br />

Judges will score individuals on their basic knowledge, technique, and execution of stunts.<br />

Each individual will be judged as a base, flier, or back spot.

Wednesday, March 14th. Freshmen may turn their form in to the front office of<br />
