our student information current. Soon we will begin to
make plans for next year’s classes. It’s helpful to know if
your student is not going to be with us.
If you have new neighbors with children, please let them
know that summer registration is available at our district
office. They can check the district website for information.

Sunset Super Sharks use their LIFESKILLS
Integrity, Initiative, Flexibility, Perseverance,
Organization, Common Sense, Patience,
Cooperation, Sense of Humor, Problem Solving,
Friendship, Caring, Effort, Responsibility and
Curiosity. These are the LIFESKILLS that we
encourage our students to value and apply in their daily lives. When
students demonstrate one or more of these skills, they are recognized
by means of a certificate and a Shark pencil. If your child comes
home with a “Recognition Referral”, ask them to tell you about it.

Change in District Head Lice Policy
Evergreen Public Schools has changed its procedure
regarding head lice, thus reflecting the most recent
professional guidelines and evidence-based, best
practice management. The Centers for Disease
Control, American Academy of Pediatrics, Clark
County Public Health, and the National Association of
School Nurses do not support "no nit" policies for
schools because head lice are not a health hazard
and are not responsible for the spread of any
disease. Infestation is principally a nuisance rather
than a major threat to the student's well-being. Head
lice are also the cause of many unnecessary days lost
from school. No healthy child should be forced to miss
school because of head lice or nits/eggs.
Students assessed to have live lice and/or nits will be
provided written notification and treatment guidelines
to take home to parents at the end of the school day.
Students may return to class the following day. Noncompliant
cases may be referred to the school nurse
who may offer additional assistance as needed.

Unclaimed medications will be
discarded at the end of the school year.
Summer Lunch Program
One of our community partners, The Vancouver
Church of Christ, will provide sack lunches for
students from Sunset Elementary starting Thursday
June 20 and ending Thursday Aug. 29 (no lunches
July 4). The lunches will usually contain a sandwich,
chips, fruit, cookies, and a drink; the students will
have a choice between a peanut butter & jelly or
meat & cheese sandwich – all other items will be
the same in each sack lunch. The students may pick
up their take home lunches between 11:30 -12:30
on Thursdays.
Please have students sign up for the lunches on line
at www.vanchurch.org, or call 360.696.0548 and
leave a message by Tuesday of each week so we’ll
have some idea of the number of lunches to make.
If a student has any food allergy, please have them
let us know before taking their sack lunch.
If any parent would like to assist with making or
serving lunches, please call the church office and
leave your name and phone number.

Unclaimed Lost and Found items will be
donated to a charitable organization
during the last week in June. If your
child is missing anything, you are
welcome to come in and look through
the lost and found. The last day the
office is open to the public is June 25.
Friends and neighbors are welcome to come
use the Sunset grounds over the summer.
Please help keep our grounds safe and clean
by making sure you supervise your children
and report any suspicious or illegal activity.
Let’s keep our campus nice for everyone to
enjoy.

Summer Reading and Math Challenge
Information about this summer’s challenge is
in your child’s report card envelope. All
students are encouraged to participate. A
reading log is supplied for students to keep
track of books read and time spent reading,
or you can do this online. Each grade level
also has math facts to study. A brief timed
math facts test will be given at the end of
the summer, and students showing
proficiency will be entered in a drawing for
prizes.
