Welcome to the month of November. It’s hard to believe that we are
closing in on the middle of first semester and that report cards are going home on
the 15th for all Senior Years students. Middle Years students will receive the first
of their three report cards on December 8th. There is also a scheduled Parent/
Teacher Conference on Thursday, November 22th for all students, both Middle
and Senior Years. Please call the office to make an appointment between 6:00
and 8:00 p.m. Feel free to contact your child’s teachers if you are not able to
make this date. I also encourage you contact teachers at any point throughout
the school year if you have any questions or concerns. They will be happy to help
address your questions or concerns.
Please watch for upcoming celebrations from our various student committees
around the area of social justice. We are looking at ways to become more
responsible in taking care of the earth and the people that we share it with. Areas
to access these success stories are our website at http://www.sunrisesd.ca/
school/edward, our monthly newsletters and our local newspapers the Beausejour
Review and the Clipper. We are proud of our progress but realize we are only
just beginning in the area of Social Justice.
Proud of all the initiatives and accomplishments,
Mr. Ilchena, Mr. Welsh and Mr. Feilberg
WE DAY ~ October 30
On October 30 th 43 students attended WE DAY at the MTS Center in Winnipeg.
What is WE Day and what are the goals of
WE Day
By bringing together youth and inspirational
speakers and performers to address a range
of social justice issues Free the Children
wants participants to:
• celebrate the power of young people to
create change by renouncing apathy.
• find their place within the movement to
create global change.
• be informed about new challenges.
• be inspired to take action on the issues they care about.
What is social justice
There are many definitions, but the main idea is that everyone is equal and should
have fair access to the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Social justice
issues are situations or challenges that prevent people from being able to live
up to their fullest potential because of a lack of opportunity or the denial of rights.
What is Free the Children It is an international charity and educational partner. It
was founded in 1995 by a 12 year old named Craig Kielburger. Free The Children
believes in a world where all young people are free to achieve their fullest potential
as agents of change. Mrs. Chamberlin had the opportunity to meet Craig and
hear of his experiences and how he created the Free the Children organization.
ÉESS is proud to be a WE SCHOOL and after We Day, the students as well as the
school will be involved in yearlong campaigns where we focus on local and global
issues. Examples of 2 of the campaigns:
From October 22-27 the Beausejour Consumers Coop Food Store took food
donations in our honour for our "We Scare Hunger" campaign. All food donations
will be donated to Beausejour's Food Bank. THANK YOU TO
BEAUSEJOUR CONSUMERS COOP for helping us with this initiative.
We are also getting the students of ÉESS to bring non perishable food items
on Halloween which we will also donate to the local food bank.
For the month of November and December we will be running a campaign called
"We Create Change". This campaign has people donating pennies only and filling
a bag. When the bag is filled to the required line, we will take it to the Royal Bank
where they give us a $25.00 voucher for Free The Children. The Social Justice
committee will be collecting the pennies so if anyone wants to donate their pennies,
they can drop them off at the school.
THANK YOU to EASTMAN PROMOTIONAL PRODUCTS for subsidizing some of the
costs of the ÉESS t-shirts.

FRANÇAIS 10/11
On vient de finir une étude du
roman Le petit prince. Comme
c’est un livre plein de métaphores
et grandes leçons pour la
vie, j’ai demandé aux élèves de
partager des conseils sages
qu’ils ont appris dans leurs vies.
Voici quelques exemples de réponses
:
« Je veux que les personnes savent
la citation « On n’est pas
entièrement habiller sans un
sourire », parce qu’un sourire
peut facilement influencer les
vies des autres. »
« Ne laisse personne t’arrêter
d’être toi-même. »
« N’arrête jamais ce que tu fais –
la récompense c’est d’atteindre
tes buts. »
Psychologie 40S
Le mois dernier, nous avons
étudié la structure et les fonctions
du cerveau humain. Ensuite,
« Le monde est plus grand que ce
qu’on puisse voir directement
devant nous-mêmes. »
Curling Gold medalist Mark Nichols. Mark talked about the importance of fitness and
nutrition not only for curling, but for life in general. Mark also shared his amazing
experience as a member of the Canadian Olympic Team. From the thrill of the opening
ceremonies to fulfilling his lifelong dream of winning an Olympic Gold Medal,
Mark gave us a glimpse of where commitment and hard work can lead us. At the end
of the presentation, he gave every student an opportunity to hold the Olympic Gold
