PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES1. Parents are not required to call the transportation office in themorning if child is not attending school that day. Please notifyschool.2. Parents are to ensure that students are dressed appropriatelyfor weather conditions. In winter, buses traveling in ruralareas or students taking part in extra curricular activitiesshould be prepared for sudden storms or emergency situations,i.e. students should wear snow boots and other warm clothes.Parents should make themselves aware of the StudentResponsibilities outlined in this pamphlet.NON-GRANT TRANSPORTATION SERVICESUnallocated seats on <strong>Division</strong>al school buses may be provided toKindergarten to Senior 4 students who do not qualify for ManitobaEducation and Training Grants.Access to non-grant transportation services will be determined on an annualbasis.Applications for unallocated seats on divisional buses are available at the<strong>Transportation</strong> Office or any divisional school and are to be submitted to the<strong>Transportation</strong> Office by June 15 th of each year.The following conditions apply:1. <strong>Transportation</strong> service will be provided in accordance with the <strong>Sunrise</strong><strong>School</strong> <strong>Division</strong> <strong>Transportation</strong> Procedures.2. Seats will be allocated on a progressive grade level basis beginningwith Kindergarten.3. Distance from the school as measured by the <strong>Transportation</strong>Department will be used as the determining factor if it is necessary toselect between students who are the same age.4. Bus routes will not be altered. All buses will be loaded to a maximumof 95% of their capacity where possible. (No bumping permitted)This is subject to not adversely affecting the pickup time guidelines setby the Province for eligible students.5. <strong>Transportation</strong> will not be provided for those students who live lessthan .8 kilometres from their divisionally designated school.6. In the event of eligible students requiring transportation services andseating is not available, non-eligible student transportation servicesmay be discontinued immediately.7. Non eligible High <strong>School</strong> Students (Grade 9 to S4) requestingtransportation services will be placed on a bus after September 30 thonce determination of available seats have been made.Non-Eligible forms are available on the <strong>Division</strong>alWebsite, or at your local <strong>School</strong> or the <strong>Transportation</strong>Office.


15. Students are not allowed to eat or drink on the bus forsafety reasons.16. Students are to keep books, packages, coats and allother objects out of the aisles.17. Students are to assist in keeping the bus safe and clean.18. Students must not tamper with the bus or itsequipment.19. Students are to be courteous to their driver.20. Students must not take any object onto the bus thatcould endanger passengers.21. Students must not smoke on the school bus.22. Students are to use the rear door for emergencypurposes only.23. Older students are expected to assist in looking after thesafety and comfort of smaller children.24. Students are to cross at least 3 meters in front of thebus, and then only after checking to make sure there isno traffic approaching and the bus driver has given theall-clear signal.25. Students must move at least 2 meters from the side ofthe bus as it pulls away.26. Students must co-operate with monitors or school buspatrols on their bus.Students may be suspended from <strong>School</strong> Bustransportation for failing to comply with theexpectations, responsibilities and/or rulesprovided.INFORMATION REGARDINGGRANT-IN-LIEU OF TRANSPORTATIONThe Provincial <strong>Transportation</strong> grant structure for students who livemore than 1.6 kilometres walking distance from their divisionallydesignated school is as follows: Urban K-6 = $290.00 Rural K-S4 = $375.00Grant-In-Lieu of <strong>Transportation</strong> is only available if bus services areunavailable.The Request for Grant-In-Lieu of <strong>Transportation</strong> Payment form isavailable on <strong>Division</strong>al Website, or at your local <strong>School</strong> or the<strong>Transportation</strong> Office.1. Eligible students: In late August the <strong>Transportation</strong>Department (Driver) will contact the parents/guardians ofeligible students to notify them of bussing arrangements (e.g.bus routes and pick-up/drop off times and locations).2. Medical/Physically Handicapped Students: Applicationsfor students who have been certified by a qualified medicaldoctor as requiring transportation for a physical or chronicmedical reason must be submitted to the <strong>Sunrise</strong> <strong>School</strong><strong>Division</strong> annually prior to the beginning of each school year.Applications are available at the Board Office or at any schoolin the <strong>Division</strong>.3. Students with Special Needs or Medical Considerationswill be required to have a completed Personal <strong>Transportation</strong>Plan (P.T.P.) and it will be forward to the <strong>Transportation</strong>Department.4. Program not offered: Relates to Students attendingRegional Vocational programs and French ImmersionPrograms.
