Fr. Tom’s Thank You Celebration
As you know, Msgr. Tom Welbers will be
leaving us at the end of June. We want to offer the
entire parish an opportunity to say “thank you” to Fr.
Tom for the love, care and concern he has extended
to our parish family over the last 15 years.
When Fr. Tom was asked what type of
celebration he would like to have, his answer was
“nothing elaborate, something casual – a bit like our
parish picnic.” How like Fr. Tom to want to pull our
parish together, to have an event that will highlight
one of the great gifts he has taught us, that is, to be
family to each other and to be united as one parish
community.
So mark your calendars for SATURDAY,
JUNE 27. Plan to be with us for Fr. Tom’s Thank
You Celebration on the Green.
If you would like to contribute to Fr. Tom’s
going away gift, envelopes will be available on the
Welcome Cart, in the church foyer, and in the parish
office. Names of all who make a donation will be
included in a remembrance to Fr. Tom. (If you would
like information about Fr. Tom’s gift, contact one of
the committee co-chairs. But remember, it’s a
surprise!)

St. Paul reminds us that God

Thanks to pancake patrons!
An impressive $1,000 was donated to OLA
School scholarships and the Archdiocesan fund
for seminarians through the recent pancake
breakfast hosted by Knights of Columbus. We
appreciate the generosity of the Pearring Family
for donating fruit cups, IHOP of Upland for pancake
batter and Jounni’s Restaurant for sausage.

A final note: This will be the one big parish
event – we hope everyone will participate in making
this an evening that will be a truly great memory for
Fr. Tom. However, some of our organizations and
ministries may still feel the need to have a more
personalized farewell. We ask you to bear in mind
the following: There are over 80 ministries and
organizations at OLA and Fr. Tom’s calendar is
limited as to available dates. Obviously, every group
cannot fete Fr. Tom individually. If your group
decides that you want to use one of Fr. Tom’s
available dates, please contact Jacqueline Trinkaus,
who will be coordinating dates for Fr. Tom.

Message from Fr. Tom...
Last week at the Los Angeles Religious Education
Congress, held annually at the Anaheim Convention
Center, about 20,000 people gathered for a three-day
experience of formation in our faith. I was one of
about 150 speakers at the event, and my talk drew an
audience of about 400 people. I called it “Crossing
Paths with Paul: A Journey into His Homeland and
His Heart.” If you’d like to hear and see it, I’ve
posted the entire talk, along with pictures and graphics,
on YouTube. You can easily find it, along with many
other notes and references about St. Paul, on my

I pray that Lent may continue to be a season of
healing, forgiveness, and grace for all of us as we prepare
to welcome the Risen Jesus at Easter.
