Fr. Tom’s Thank You Celebration
As you know, Msgr. Tom Welbers will be
leaving us at the end of June. We want to offer the
entire parish an opportunity to say “thank you” to Fr.
Tom for the love, care and concern he has extended
to our parish family over the last 15 years.
When Fr. Tom was asked what type of
celebration he would like to have, his answer was
“nothing elaborate, something casual – a bit like our
parish picnic.” How like Fr. Tom to want to pull our
parish together, to have an event that will highlight
one of the great gifts he has taught us, that is, to be
family to each other and to be united as one parish
community.
So mark your calendars for SATURDAY,
JUNE 27. Plan to be with us for Fr. Tom’s Thank
You Celebration on the Green.
If you would like to contribute to Fr. Tom’s
going away gift, envelopes will be available on the
Welcome Cart, in the church foyer, and in the parish
office. Names of all who make a donation will be
included in a remembrance to Fr. Tom. (If you would
like information about Fr. Tom’s gift, contact one of
the committee co-chairs. But remember, it’s a
surprise!)

Thanks to pancake patrons!
An impressive $1,000 was donated to OLA
School scholarships and the Archdiocesan fund
for seminarians through the recent pancake
breakfast hosted by Knights of Columbus. We
appreciate the generosity of the Pearring Family
for donating fruit cups, IHOP of Upland for pancake
batter and Jounni’s Restaurant for sausage.

A final note: This will be the one big parish

organizations at OLA and Fr. Tom’s calendar is
limited as to available dates. Obviously, every group
cannot fete Fr. Tom individually. If your group

who will be coordinating dates for Fr. Tom.

Message from Fr. Tom...
Last week at the Los Angeles Religious Education
Congress, held annually at the Anaheim Convention
Center, about 20,000 people gathered for a three-day
experience of formation in our faith. I was one of
about 150 speakers at the event, and my talk drew an
audience of about 400 people. I called it “Crossing
Paths with Paul: A Journey into His Homeland and
His Heart.” If you’d like to hear and see it, I’ve
posted the entire talk, along with pictures and graphics,
on YouTube. You can easily find it, along with many
other notes and references about St. Paul, on my
new “Crossing Paths with Paul” web-page at

I pray that Lent may continue to be a season of
healing, forgiveness, and grace for all of us as we prepare
to welcome the Risen Jesus at Easter.

Eucharistic Adoration will be held Friday, March 13 from just after
the 6:30 a.m. Mass on Friday until the 8:15 a.m. Mass on Saturday.

Joe Domond plans mission to Haiti
At the end of the month, OLA’s Joe Domond will make his annual
medical mission trip to Haiti with dentist Daniel Duroseau and parishioner
Hugh Menton. This team is currently seeking a portable dental chair
and portable dental unit for the mission. Joe may be reached at (909) 816-

Cherubin Domond Foundation to honor the memory of his son, Jeff, who
graduated from Damien High School. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box

Bereavement Ministry
For those who are interested in exploring Bereavement Ministry to

Baptisms Information about Baptism is available at the Welcome Cart on
the patio after weekend Masses. All parents must attend a Baptism Orientation
during which a date for the Baptism may be reserved. Please allow four to six
weeks before the Baptism. English Orientation begins with 9 a.m. Mass on the
first Sunday of the month, followed by a one-hour meeting. The child’s parents
and godparents are then given instruction at a two-hour Baptism Preparation
Class at 7 p.m. in the church on the second Monday of the month. The
Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on various Saturdays.
Weddings Congratulations! Please call Mary Jean Neault, our
Director of Pastoral Ministries (ext. 216) at least six months ahead for
preparation and scheduling. Weddings are scheduled Saturdays at 10 a.m.,

mission from March 27 to April 5.

the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday,
April 19 as a local Ugandan choir
and drum ensemble enlivens the
liturgy. Afterward, learn about
African culture and enjoy samples
of African cuisine and dancing in
the auditorium.

As a representative of our Spanish-speaking Community,
Celia Gonzales paid a visit to the orphanage of
Salamanca, Mexico. There she saw evidence of OLA’s
past generosity – a new well for clean water and newlypainted
buildings. Still needed are a new washer and
dryer. The orphans will be returning to Claremont for a
fundraising concert at a larger venue on July 18. Watch
the bulletin for updates on plans for this long-awaited
visit and encore performance.
