In the summer of 1972, a pair of salesmen from
the clothing manufacturer Edward Fletcher and
Co met over a slab of beer to brainstorm a punchy
name for their spankin’ new men’s fashion short.
As one might imagine, the thinking didn’t go very
far. The name “Stubbies” has come to be a part of
the Australian vernacular for short shorts and is a
favoured staple in many Aussie guy’s wardrobe.
Today, Stubbies is still recognised as an iconic
Australian brand that provides affordable clothing.
