OUR VISION While there may be some differences in today’s Chapter compared to the one you knew, all alumni can be proud of the legacy we have helped create. Through an intense focus on leadership, scholarship, discipline, and alumni involvement, California Epsilon will position itself as a role model at UCLA and throughout the fraternal world. Phi Kappa Psi is committed to bettering individuals in order to improve society. Thanks to innovative programs, such as the Woodrow Wilson Leadership Academy and the President’s Leadership Academy, Phi Psis continue to build upon the foundation of our great Fraternity. One program in particular has positioned Phi Kappa Psi as the preeminent leadership development organization. The American Leadership Academy, founded by Jerry nelson ’48, impacts more than 700 Phi Psis from around the country each year. The academy is a week-long program that provides education and training in the areas of ethics, career development, group dynamics, and service. Over the last decade more than 350 California Epsilon undergraduates have attended this workshop and emerged as leaders within the Chapter and on the UCLA campus. Additionally, nearly 100 California Epsilon alumni have served as facilitators of the impactful program. We must position ourselves to attract top student leaders who will move our Fraternity forward. Students recognize the value of a positive fraternity experience in a top chapter, and completion of this project will help ensure Phi Psi’s place as one of the premier fraternities on UCLA’s campus. “I work with college-age men for a living and often hear, ‘Kids today are different.’ While I think that can be overstated, there are certainly differences in the way they were raised and their outlook on the world. And knowing the specifics of those differences, I have concluded that the fraternity experience is more crucial to the development of our future leaders than ever before. College fraternities play a relevant role in shaping the lives of young men. Today, perhaps more than ever, it is important that we provide young men with a small, groupliving environment that offers them a solid foundation for their education, and also affords them opportunities for high academic achievement and the development of leadership and social skills. The undergraduate men have already made a commitment to work hard in continuing the programs and traditions that have benefited the lives of so many Phi Psis over the years. Together with our undergraduates, the volunteer leadership of the California Epsilon House Corporation is committed to this major undertaking, which will allow us to secure the future of our Chapter House and continue to be the preeminent fraternity at UCLA. This stage of our project requires assistance from a highly selective group of alumni—like you. We are working to identify alumni who have both the ability and interest to provide major assistance to the project. Remember that each of us benefited from the generosity, work, and sacrifice of those who went before us. We all enjoyed the comfort and brotherhood Phi Kappa Psi provided during our years at UCLA. Now it is our turn to repay the Fraternity and ensure that the same, wonderful experience is available to others.

We are each challenged to GIVE BACK so that new arrivals have the same opportunities that we were given.” – Jerry neLson ’47 Each of us, simply by our presence, has contributed to the history of the California Epsilon. How appropriate then that each of our names be entered into its halls. All supporters of the project investing $2,500 or more will be recognized on a prominently displayed plaque. All donors investing $1,000 or more will appear in campaign publications, unless otherwise requested. Names will appear by category, relative to the size of their gift. Gifts in honor or in memory of Brothers, as well as family and pledge class gifts, are welcomed. Recognition in such cases will be given to both the donor and the honoree. Because of the magnitude of California Epsilon’s need, we urge all Brothers to consider major gifts to the campaign. Gifts can be made through the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation and designated for the California Epsilon Campaign Fund. To help donors make the largest gift possible, pledges may be spread over a five-year period. Early lead gifts to the campaign are preferable to help reduce borrowing costs. Gifts of securities are encouraged, as there are often significant tax advantages to the donor. For professional advice, please consult your tax advisor. We urge your thoughtful consideration of this plan. With your support, California Epsilon will continue to provide a quality living environment that supports, nurtures, and develops outstanding young men with the skills and confidence to face an ever-changing world. The commitment we make today cannot be underestimated—it will have a ripple effect on the lives of our California Epsilon Brothers for years to come. “When I pledged Phi Psi as a freshman, it exposed me to many things I probably would not have experienced at UCLA – most of them good.
