About our Featured Composer Program The Featured Composer Series, now in its second season, seeks to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> a selected composer by performing that individual’s work throughout the season. By weaving a number <strong>of</strong> works into the concert repertoire and marketing the composer with each performance, SCH hopes to generate positive exposure that compels publishers and other ensembles to program the composer’s works. This season’s Featured Composer is Dr. Wayne Eastwood. Featured compositions this season are: ɵɵ “A Love Poem in July,” written in the summer <strong>of</strong> 2010 for Deborah Simpkin King, premiered November 6 on the <strong>Schola</strong> Sings Solo recital ɵɵ “Come Away to the Skies (Exultation)”, premiered on the December 4 and 5 concerts ɵ ɵ Final Litany, part <strong>of</strong> our Journey <strong>of</strong> the Soul concerts on March 19 and 20, 2011 You can make a difference! About <strong>Schola</strong> <strong>Cantorum</strong> on Hudson <strong>Schola</strong> <strong>Cantorum</strong> on Hudson was founded as an independent choral ensemble in 1995, with a mission <strong>of</strong> enriching the lives <strong>of</strong> the diverse New Jersey and New York communities with the highest quality <strong>of</strong> choral music. The ensemble has grown dynamically to embrace a mission <strong>of</strong> deepening and enlivening the human spirit by <strong>of</strong>fering a passionate musical experience with innovative programming over a wide variety <strong>of</strong> musical styles, and representing all aspects <strong>of</strong> the vocal art. <strong>Schola</strong> regularly premieres new choral works and achieves high performance standards through a robust music education program. Its members—a mix <strong>of</strong> active pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and wellqualified amateurs—supported by a dedicated Board and staff, believe that widespread cultural impact is possible through impassioned artistic leadership. In addition to its busy concert season, SCH participates in a variety <strong>of</strong> community events, and is increasingly performing concerts beyond the New York/New Jersey metro area. Our week as choir in residence for Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral in July <strong>of</strong> 2010 is but one recent example. The individual members <strong>of</strong> SCH have been drawn together by a shared love <strong>of</strong> great choral music and by a dedication to the highest standard <strong>of</strong> performance <strong>of</strong> that repertoire. <strong>Schola</strong> <strong>Cantorum</strong> on Hudson is committed not only to high-quality performance, but also to making a pr<strong>of</strong>ound impact on both its immediate and expanded communities through educational <strong>of</strong>ferings. Examples <strong>of</strong> the high-quality educational programs for the community include the <strong>Cantorum</strong> Young Singers, Choral <strong>Schola</strong>r Programs, and Community Engagement Programs. Other <strong>of</strong>ferings include classes in advanced vocal technique and presentation, assertive sightsinging and ensemble skills, and the innovative Member Inreach program. The international initiative, Project : Encore <strong>of</strong> <strong>Schola</strong> <strong>Cantorum</strong> on Hudson, launched in 2009, puts major muscle behind support for lively choral compositions and their accessibility to conductors seeking to program new works. <strong>Schola</strong> <strong>Cantorum</strong> on Hudson is accredited by the State <strong>of</strong> New Jersey as a provider <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development Credits for New Jersey public school teachers who participate in <strong>Schola</strong>'s performance and educational <strong>of</strong>ferings.
