For the latest information on anchorages, refer to the Notice to Mariners for the Port of Abbot Point at http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Notices-to-Mariners/Ntm-abbotpoint.aspx. 7.4 Berth Facilities The port currently has two operational bulk coal loading berths. 7.4.1 Berth 1 The berth length for Berth 1 is 268 m. There are seven breasting dolphins equipped with Bridgestone energy absorbing cell-type rubber fenders. The height of the top of the fenders above datum is about 7.5 m and the height of underside of the fenders above the datum is about 0.9 m. The berth pocket is 512 m long x 70 m wide (Maritime Safety Queensland 2010). 7.4.2 Berth 2 The berth length for Berth 2 is approximately 252 m. There are seven breasting dolphins equipped with Bridgestone energy absorbing cell-type rubber fenders. The height of the top of the fenders above datum is about 8.05 m and the height of underside of the fenders above the datum is about -0.26 m. The berth pocket is 480 m long x 70 m wide. Please note that 60 m overlaps with berth pocket 1.
P o r t o f A b b o t P o i n t P o r t H a n d b o o k Page | 10 7.4.3 Nominal Depth LAT The depth alongside at datum is 19.0 m at Berth 1 and 19.5 m at Berth 2. The departure channel depth from both berths is 17.0 m. 7.4.4 Depths of Water The depths of water approaches are nominally 17.2 m (Transport and Main Roads 2012) below datum. Note: Depths are subject to change. For the latest information on approach depths, refer to Notice to Mariners for the Port of Abbot Point at http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Notices-to- Mariners/Ntm-abbot-point.aspx. 7.4.5 Maximum Vessel Size The maximum LOA for the port is 300 m length overall (LOA) [or 200,000 summer deadweight tonnes (sdwt)] and 50 m beam. Maximum displacement is 110,000 tonnes. Any vessels over this size may be able to enter the harbour at the discretion and determination of the Regional Harbour Master upon written application. Restrictions: a) The ballast condition should have the propeller fully immersed with maximum trim 2.5 m by the stern with a forward draft not less than 2% of LOA. b) There are no restrictions on time. Berthing is at the discretion of the Harbour Master with regards to weather conditions. c) Engines must not be immobilised while alongside the berth. d) Unberthing is in accordance with the state of tide and draft and under keel clearance is draft x 6% plus one metre. Refer to Maritime Safety Queensland’s Port of Abbot Point Procedures and Information for Shipping. 7.5 Pilotage Pilotage is compulsory and available 24 hours a day, seven days per week, subject to notice. Ships need to confirm estimated time of arrival and departure through their agent (Transport and Main Roads 2012): Arrivals 48 hours Departures 24 hours 7.6 Tides The tidal flows are approximately parallel to the wharf with the ebb flowing at 289° (T) and the flood at 109° (T).
