Bob Lanois
Quotes:
An invitation to collaborate with my
brother, master arranger/musician
Daniel Lanois, took us on the trip of
a lifetime through our family’s
Quebecois roots and ancient
European history, driven by the
pulse of the big city of Toronto. Dan
enabled my fledgling harmonica
style to emerge from a hidden place
in the woods to meet the world ~
Composer, musician, performer, filmmaker,
photographer
Born with an inquisitive mind, into a large
musical French-Canadian family near the
Gatineau Hills in Quebec in 1948.
Moved to Ontario at age 14 with his mother
Gilberte (an inspiring and enterprising
woman), sister Jocelyne (ex-Crash Vegas,
Martha & the Muffins, music writer,
performer), and brothers Daniel
(accomplished recording artist, musician,
songwriter, and producer of U2, Bob Dylan,
and many other well-known artists) and
Ronald (recently deceased; internationally
trained chef and owner of "Ron's Big Easy"
Restaurant).
Designed and built Grant Avenue Studio in
Hamilton, Ontario in 1975, and operated it
with his brother Daniel Lanois. The studio
produced many famous recordings in the
early 80s. Brian Eno (ex-Roxy Music, U2,
David Bowie, and creator of ambient music)
was instrumental in putting the studio on the
map and launching the international career of
Daniel Lanois. The studio continues under the
joint ownership of Bob Doidge and Paul
Riemens, and is still favoured by many great
artists, including Gordon Lightfoot.
Bob has recorded and produced CDs such as
The Silver Hearts "Our Precious City", Rachel
Heart "Warrior", Willie P. Bennett "Hobo's
Taunt", and the pioneer punk recording by
Simply Saucer "Cyborgs Revisited".
