Our Value Proposition ISS-McKay has well-established offices at all major ports in New Zealand. We continue to develop our presence by additonally ensuring that our staff or sub agents are well-positioned within the minor ports. We attend all types of vessel calling at New Zealand ports. This experience, with its regional overlay, ensures that specialised local service knowledge is provided at each port. We can fully engage with local stakeholders including government, non-government organisations, border authorities, tourism structures (cruise), environmental and port authorities. ISS-McKay is thus able to deliver agency, logistics and specialised services to the customer. Key Features and Benefits 9 Our experienced team, including master mariners, provide expertise in the daily handling of all types of tonnage, related agency services and logistics. This reassures the customer that he is dealing with people who are familiar with his vessel type, cargo, trade and the purpose of his port call. 9 In addition to agency services, we offer an in-house Forestry service, trading as Port and Shipping Services (PASS.). PASS specialises in preplanning, stowage, stability calculations and lashing of logs. This range of services offers owners/charterers with both a total port call and superintendency package. Experienced log loading personnel ensure that the vessel uplifts the maximum cargo within the variables arising at New Zealand ports pertaining to log weights/ volumes, draughts, stability and trim requirements. The loading of deck cargoes, lashing and preparations for the deepsea voyage are included in log superintendency conducted by PASS. 9 Our Cruise service specialises in both turnaround and transit calls at all New Zealand ports. ISS-McKay has trained cruise staff placed in all offices. We are the only company with representation in the New Zealand fjords and ISS-McKay has government permits for cruise vessels to call at eco-sensitive locations, which can be assigned to our customers. 9 We are Offshore, Antarctic and Heavy Lift specialists. Our services include mobilization and demobilization logistics, warehouse to deck, customs and border control, handling and care services for scientific equipment. Our Lyttelton (Christchurch) office represents numerous Antarctic Treaty Nations vessels. 9 We cultivate relations within the country’s shipping industry and have excellent contacts, including those with trusted service providers and local port authorities. ISS-McKay is, in turn, aligned to provide a comprehensive overlay for customers. FAQ New Zealand 9 What is the Marsec/ISPS status in New Zealand All the New Zealand ports have the Marsec 1 status since the inception of ISPS. 9 Are New Zealand ports unionised Only 12% of NZ’s workforce is unionised and both unionised and non-unionised people have a right to be employed, allowing for more open competition at New Zealand ports. It is important to note that customers should question the likes of charter and insurance clauses which state “excluding Australia and New Zealand” because the New Zealand industrial and port competition landscape differs from that in Australia. 9 Are there any problems disposing of ballast water As New Zealand is an isolated island and relatively free from introduced marine species, a strict protocol is in place. The Government Quarantine office checks ballast water declarations 48 hrs prior to the vessels’ arrival at the first entry port in New Zealand. The authorities then instruct the vessel as to their ability to exchange or dispose of ballast water whilst in New Zealand ports or territorial waters. 9 Can crew exchanges be implemented in New Zealand ISS-McKay specialises in crew changes, conducted in accordance with Global HSSE and SOP policies. We will provide invitation letters for on-signers who are non-visa waiver country passport holders. This ensures that the offshore New Zealand embassy will issue the crew member an entry visa. ISS-McKay then has a regulatory responsibility to ensure the crew member is both immigrated and signed on aboard the vessel in a New Zealand port. It is important to note that whenever possible, crew changes should be arranged to coincide with port calls at Auckland, Wellington or Lyttelton (Christchurch), which have international airports. If this is not possible, please contact us for advice on the best domestic transportation to the port required. 9 Can we bunker our vessels in New Zealand Bunkering vessels are restricted to certain ports. For more information, please enquire through our website at www.iss-mckay.co.nz and refer to the ISS port microsites 9 Are shore cranes available Most discharging and loading operations are carried out with ship's gear, and mobile cranes are also available. Container terminals use gantry or mobile container cranes. We can provide hire prices on request and can negotiate competitive pricing for the customer. 9 Are spares/repairs and engineering services available All large ports in New Zealand have reputable workshops and engineering companies available. ISS-McKay can provide further advice, monitor the process and liaise between the parties as required. In-house clearance of spares arriving from overseas is available, and we can ensure an efficient service. Please note, customers must provide full details for Customs clearances. 9 Is port information freely available We maintain updated information on all commercial ports operating in New Zealand. available upon request through AKL@iss-mckay.co.nz or our ISS port microsites. 9 Is fresh water and wet/dry provisions easily available for supply Fresh water can be supplied at most ports alongside the berth by hose. Both wet and dry provisions are available at most ports. At least 48 hrs notice is required by ISS-McKay to ensure that the necessary quality provisions are supplied. 9 Are OPL facilities available off New Zealand’s ports Yes. In larger ports we have fully bonded storage facilities which are approved by Customs/Biosecurity outside port areas. The other ports have facilities available off port, but may be subject to biosecurity regulations. These facilities are either fully bonded secure storage premises or off port storage facilities.
