OB/GYN AND ABDOMINAL SONOGRAPHY UPDATE 

April 25 − 27, 2008 

UCSF is proud to present its annual 

sonography course for general radiologists, 

sonologists and sonographers. In practice, 

many radiologists have had limited 

sonographic subspecialty training or expertise, 

which puts added stress and responsibility on 

the sonographers/technologists. This course 

will update standard practices in fetal, 

gynecologic, abdominal and breast ultrasound 

imaging. In addition, we will emphasize 

sensitive detection of abnormalities including 

false positive diagnoses. 

Clinical radiologists and sonographers will 

have updated information regarding 

expectations for (and limitations of) 

sonographic diagnosis in the following 

diagnostic areas: targeted and non-targeted 

obstetric sonography, nuchal translucency 

screening, fetal cardiac and brain imaging, 

female pelvic imaging including those of 

endometrial and ovarian pathologies, breast 

sonograhy, groin hernias, pediatric urology, 

carotid disease and liver transplantation.

At the conclusion of this course, 

attendees should be able to: 

1. Triage patients to targeted vs. non-targeted obstetrics sonograms; 

2. Understand expectations and quality control in Nuchal Tranclucency screening programs; 

3. More accurately interpret solid and cystic masses in the breast using ultrasound; 

4. More confidently screen and interpret ovarian masses; 

5. Understand the implications of findings on a pediatric urologic sonogram to the pediatric urologist; 

6. Better interpret a pelvic sonogram after an abnormality is seen on a CT scan; 

7. Appreciate the important findings on the abdominal sonogram in a patient who has undergone a 

liver transplant, including the use of doppler imaging; 

8. Gain more awareness of how to find a groin hernia using sonography.

Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical 

Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical 

education for physicians. 

UCSF designates this educational activity for a 

maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. 

Physicians should only claim credit commensurate 

with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical 

Sonographers (ARDMS) accepts all Category 1 

Credit from organizations that are accredited by 

the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical

The total credits include .5 in breast ultrasound.

This program is approved for AMA-CMA 

credit and will be accepted toward meeting
