Contractor Spotlight Allen and Jason Easley, Artistic Concrete Engraving “When we start a job, the whole place shuts down, no one is allowed in, and we wear booties to protect the surfaces from contaminants. We’re almost like surgeons!” That’s how Jason Easley describes the meticulous care and precision with which he and his brother Allen, owners of Artistic Concrete Engraving, approach every decorative concrete job. Just as a plastic surgeon evaluates his patient, the Easley brothers assess every concrete project carefully and work with the customer to achieve impeccable results. “We’re almost above ridiculous when it comes to getting a job perfect,” Jason adds, “but it’s the perfection that makes our customers happy and makes us proud of what we do. We never want our name on an inferior job.” The Easleys’ interest in decorative concrete can be traced to their parents. The brothers learned about concrete from their father, a dispatcher for a local concrete company, and they practiced their techniques during parttime jobs while students. Their mother, an artist, encouraged them to develop their inherent artistic flair. Combining a learned skill with a natural talent seemed logical, thus Artistic Concrete Engraving was born. “We enjoy the artistic side of decorative concrete,” Jason says. “That’s what led us to Engrave-A-Crete. We don’t mind spending a little more on quality products. It’s much easier and more cost effective than having to go back to fix a job. We can depend on what we buy from Engrave-A-Crete.” The Easley brothers have completed decorative concrete jobs for some high-profile clients. Dale Earnardt, Jr., one of the most popular 28 figures in American motor sports, chose Artistic Concrete Engraving to enhance his open air patio with engraving and luxurious stain colors. Another racing celebrity, Brad Keselowski, called on Allen and Jason’s artistic skills to stain and engrave a replica of the hands portion of Michaelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” on the floor of his patio. Working with these racing greats has led to an equally exciting job currently in the planning stage—an engraved and stained checkered flag design down the walkway of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Allen and Jason use all of the Engrave-a-Crete tools, but Jason particularly likes working with the Mongoose. “If I could only tell you how much I love that Mongoose,” Jason says. “My brother barely gets his hands on it because I have it all the time. I overwork the Mongoose more than any other tool because I like to be right on where I’m cutting. That way I can get every cut just right. Nine out of ten of our jobs involve engraving.” Jason and Allen also do a lot of decorative concrete staining. A recent project, a Just Chillin’ Frozen Yogurt shop floor, tested their expertise with stains. “We needed to match the orange counter in the shop,” Jason says, “so we mixed Concrete Resurrection Sunshine Yellow and Radiant Red until we had just the shade we needed. We used it for the 7’4” circle in the entry and for other sections of the floor. It worked out great.” The Lutheran Rose, engraved on the floor of a church fellowship hall, is another example of the stellar craftsmanship of the Easley brothers. “We knew what the design should be,” Jason says, “but the church was working on a tight budget so we had to be creative to get the Engrave-A-Crete.com • 1-800-884-2114
esults we wanted.” The engraving, combined with various intensities and colors of stain for shading, added depth to the design, making it easy to see why the Easley brothers have gained a reputation for magnificent work. It’s that reputation for excellence that brings new customers as well as return business to Artistic Concrete Engraving. “We tried advertising in a few magazines, with little results,” Jason says. “We didn’t get much from the phone book either. But we go through business cards like crazy! Personal contact and standing behind the work we do are our best marketing strategies.” When not on the job, Allen and Jason enjoy family time, home building projects, and riding motorcycles and 4-wheelers.
