Interesting gardens can occur when several types of
bulbs, perennials and annuals with similar sun/soil/
moisture requirements are combined in the same
flowerbed. It becomes a Layer or Lasagna Garden
when suggested planting depths are variable enough
to make it possible to plant them on top of each other.
With good planning, the flowers can bloom together,
making a mass of color, or sequentially, providing a long
sequence of bloom. Either way, it’s rewarding and a
good use of garden space...’the more plant material in
the garden, the less room there is for weeds’!
