Although many of the following bulbs may
be winter-hardy in many areas of our country,
most benefit from being planted in the
late spring and getting established before
going through a winter. For indoor forcing
projects or for growing outside in whz 8–11.
FREESIA
Family: Iridaceae
You have requested individual colors
instead of mixes, so here they are! Perfect in
the garden in whz 8 or warmer, foliage survives
temperatures in the low 20’s once established,
although that is not a problem with indoor culture;
if used indoors, force in cool greenhouse; the fragrance
is Heavenly. Bulbs enjoy a warm summer
dormancy but re-sprout in the fall; 12”-18”; (5+cm).

soil even when dormant;
lovely flowers on 12”-16”
wiry stems; the decorative
seed heads are red when
they mature.

HIPPEASTRUM
Family: Amaryllidaceae
Nickname: Amaryllis
The big, bright flower growing out of
the big, single bulb inside during dreary winter
months; comes in all types of colors; good to start
potted up in a cool, dark place, approx. 55º; avg.
bloom time 8 weeks; standard height 18”–36” and
standard bulb 28–30cm; intermediate height 12”-
24” and intermediate bulb 20-26cm.
Ambiance – clear
white and clear red with
feathers on red here
and there; bright and
beautiful for the Holiday
Season. Standard
height and flower size.
