This is the sixth year Bart Cummings and
Matthew Sandblom have donated a 10%
share in a racehorse to the Mick Young
Scholarships. The first horse was to
become known as Occurrence which
was Group 1 placed and won four city
races amassing over $280,000 in prize
money in its first two years.
This year’s horse is a yearling colt by
High Chaparral out of the stakes placed
Stravinsky mare Soelin. High Chaparral
is the sire of Bart’s champ So You Think
out of a good race mare who hails from
a great New Zealand staying family that
includes multiple classics and cup
winners. With Bart’s Melbourne Cup
history one could be forgiven for
dreaming. The package includes the
share, and all training and vet costs until
the horse turns three. Value $18,000.
Still addressed by members of the
present cabinet as “Leader”, the great
Gough Whitlam is a proud patron of the
Mick Young Scholarships. With the most
famous Australian political slogan, “It’s
Time”, he modernised the ALP and led
them out of the wilderness. This is an
original poster from 1972 signed by the
man himself. If you can’t find a poster of
Camelot signed by King Arthur to hang
on your wall, this is the next best thing.
