Jewelry Information Center’s Fourth
Annual Gem Awards was held Friday,
January 13, 2006 at Cipriani 42 nd Street in
New York City. This year’s honorees were:
Katie Couric, of NBC’s Today and Dateline,
for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism;
Pamela Fiori, editor-in-chief of Town &
Country, for Excellence in Journalism;
Peter Webster and Roberto Coin, of
Roberto Coin, S.p.a., for Excellence in
Marketing, and Helene Fortunoff for
Lifetime Achievement. Lauren Bacall,
legendary actress, presented Mrs.
Fortunoff’s award.

Other presenters for the evening were
Michael Kowalski, chairman and CEO of
Tiffany & Co., who presented Ms. Couric
with her award; Arie Kopelman, vice
chairman and former COO of Chanel,
presenter of Ms. Fiori’s award; and, Stephanie
George, president of the InStyle, Real
Simple, and Essence Magazine Group at
Time, Inc. Ms. George presented the award
to Mr. Webster and Mr. Coin. For the
fourth consecutive year, the evening was
hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies Deborah
Norville, journalist and anchor of Inside
Edition.

In all, some 600 people from the jewelry
industry throughout the world attended this
elegant event. In addition to honoring the
recipients of the Gem Awards, the event
celebrated JIC’s 60th anniversary of service
to the jewelry industry. The chairman of
JIC’s committee for this year’s Gem Awards
was Steven Kaiser, of Kaiser Time, Inc.
Now a well-established event and annual
gathering of industry leaders and professionals,
JIC’s Gem Awards recognizes the
outstanding achievements of individuals
and companies whose work raises the
visibility and status of fine jewelry and
watches. The Gem Awards honor a combination
of retailers, manufacturers and
media who meet the stringent criteria to be
leaders in their field.
