<strong>Jewelry</strong> <strong>Information</strong> <strong>Center</strong>’s Fourth<br />

Annual <strong>Gem</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> was held Friday,<br />

January 13, <strong>2006</strong> at Cipriani 42 nd Street in<br />

New York City. This year’s honorees were:<br />

Katie Couric, of NBC’s Today and Dateline,<br />

for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism;<br />

Pamela Fiori, editor-in-chief of Town &<br />

Country, for Excellence in Journalism;<br />

Peter Webster and Roberto Coin, of<br />

Roberto Coin, S.p.a., for Excellence in<br />

Marketing, and Helene Fortunoff for<br />

Lifetime Achievement. Lauren Bacall,<br />

legendary actress, presented Mrs.<br />

Fortunoff’s award.<br />

Other presenters for the evening were<br />

Michael Kowalski, chairman and CEO of<br />

Tiffany & Co., who presented Ms. Couric<br />

with her award; Arie Kopelman, vice<br />

chairman and former COO of Chanel,<br />

presenter of Ms. Fiori’s award; and, Stephanie<br />

George, president of the InStyle, Real<br />

Simple, and Essence Magazine Group at<br />

Time, Inc. Ms. George presented the award<br />

to Mr. Webster and Mr. Coin. For the<br />

fourth consecutive year, the evening was<br />

hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies Deborah<br />

Norville, journalist and anchor of Inside<br />

<strong>Edition</strong>.<br />

In all, some 600 people from the jewelry<br />

industry throughout the world attended this<br />

elegant event. In addition to honoring the<br />

recipients of the <strong>Gem</strong> <strong>Awards</strong>, the event<br />

celebrated JIC’s 60th anniversary of service<br />

to the jewelry industry. The chairman of<br />

JIC’s committee for this year’s <strong>Gem</strong> <strong>Awards</strong><br />

was Steven Kaiser, of Kaiser Time, Inc.<br />

Now a well-established event and annual<br />

gathering of industry leaders and professionals,<br />

JIC’s <strong>Gem</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> recognizes the<br />

outstanding achievements of individuals<br />

and companies whose work raises the<br />

visibility and status of fine jewelry and<br />

watches. The <strong>Gem</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> honor a combination<br />

of retailers, manufacturers and<br />

media who meet the stringent criteria to be<br />

leaders in their field.<br />
