A New Methodology for the Clinical Use of the
Wartegg Drawing Completion Test

This workshop introduces the Crisi Wartegg System (CWS), a new methodology for
the clinical use of the Wartegg Drawing Completion Test (WDCT). The WDCT is a
projective drawing technique that can be completed in 5-10 minutes and is
appropriate for children, adolescents, and adults. The WDCT is not well known in the
United States; however, a recent meta-analysis attests to its validity in assessing
personality and psychopathology. It was also recently recognized as a valid
performance-based personality test that can be used for certification in Therapeutic
Assessment.
In this workshop, Dr. Alessandro Crisi will discuss the history and theory of the
WDCT, teach its administration, introduce the major features of his scoring system,
the CWS, and illustrate the utility of the test in several clinical cases.
Created in 1926 by the German psychologist Ehrig Wartegg (1897-1983), the WDCT
consists of 8 boxes, each containing an ambiguous mark. The assessee completes
each panel by making a meaningful drawing that incorporates the mark in that panel.
The resulting drawings can be rigorously scored and interpreted, according to a
system developed by the workshop presenter, Dr. Crisi.
Psychologists in Italy, Japan, Scandinavia, and South America frequently use it in
psychological assessments. It is also a selection tool of the Italian armed forces.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Apply the WDCT experience by having taken it themselves.
• Discuss the history of the WDCT as a clinical assessment tool.
• Describe the empirical and conceptual foundations of the WDCT and its
potential applications.
• Use the standardized administration procedures.
• List the major WDCT coding variables.
• Compare the utility of the WDCT in several clinical cases

Prerequisite Training
This is an introductory level workshop, open to mental health professionals and
graduate students training to be mental health professionals. Participants need no
previous experience with the WDCT, but previous knowledge of the Rorschach and
other performance-based personality tests will be useful.
Continuing Education Credit
This workshop qualifies for 6 hours of Type I CE credits for psychologists. The
American Psychological Association has approved The Society for Personality
Assessment (SPA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. SPA maintains
responsibility for the program and its content. Participants who sign up for CE credits
will receive CE certificates at the end of the workshop.
Schedule
The workshop will be held from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 15,
2012. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. At noon, we will take a 90-minute lunch
break.

The Presenter
Alessandro Crisi, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist in Rome,
Italy. He is the founder and president of the Italian Wartegg Institute and an Adjunct
Professor in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Rome “La
Sapienza.” For many years, Dr. Crisi has been a consultant to the Rome Institute of
Speech Therapy and to the criminal and civil courts in Rome. He also serves on the
executive committee of Italian Association for Forensic Psychology. Dr. Crisi is the
author of many publications concerning psychological assessment and
psychodiagnosis. He presents frequently around the world on psychological
assessment and the Wartegg.
Future intensive trainings are planned for participants interested in learning to
independently score and interpret the WDCT. In the meantime, following this
introductory training, participants may administer the Wartegg and then arrange for
Dr. Crisi to score and interpret the protocols.
