As an innovative and efficient systems firm, we are oriented to the rapid development
of communications, information, safety and security needs of transport
companies, industrial companies and institutions.
Funkwerk Kölleda has been a specialist in the communications systems field
of business for many years. Our customers profit from our extensive technical
know-how, international project experience and references as a developer,
manufacturer and equipper of systems.
We develop stationary and mobile system solutions for the communications
management of infrastructure and railway, local public transport, inland shipping
transport providers and airports.
By integrating pioneering technologies in our developments, taking into account
state of the art standards, complete system solutions are created by Funkwerk
Kölleda which satisfy future expectations too through their modularity.
Funkwerk Kölleda is part of the Traffic & Control Communication business
unit of Funkwerk Aktiengesellschaft. We participate in the synergies and efficiency

Mobile Radio Systems
Safety in operational reliability
GSM-R, the digital train radio standard
The “mobile radio systems” centre of excellence develops and sells professional
radio equipment throughout Europe. This makes us the market leader in Europe.
Our train radio systems conform to European standards and have top service
quality parameters. The modular structure makes adaptation to customerspecific
types possible. For example, Funkwerk develops and produces product
variations of GSM-R terminal devices tailored to customer wishes and dual
mode devices (analog-digital) for the changeover phase.
Our GSM-R mobile radio systems transfer voice and data signals. A large
number of additional applications such as train control and safety (ETCS),
telematics applications, information services through to on-board ticket sales
and electronic seat reservation make our GSM-R systems even more attractive
for every user.
DMR (Digital Mobile Radio)
The properties, such as fast call setup, good voice quality, data transfer, economic
frequency use, simple migration of analog radio systems and low operating
costs justify the introduction of this new standard for operational radio
applications in the frequency bands 4m, 2m and 70cm. DMR supports direct
mode from terminal to terminal as well as communication via base stations in
operator’s own networks.
Funkwerk has developed this new system on the basis of the ETSI-specified
DMR standard. The target groups are, among others, power supply, traffic and
transport companies, security firms, rescue services, fire services and corporations
who do not have any need for a trunked radio system such as TETRA.

Digital Communication System
Digital communications systems from Kölleda nowadays control the communication
and information processes of the transport providers (rail - road - air - water) and the
special commercial network operators (industry, power suppliers) throughout Europe
and beyond.
Taking into account international standards, we develop and build tailor-made and
reliable communication solutions for our customers. The modularity and diversity
of the interfaces enable precise tailoring of the systems to the user’s requirements. Our
communications systems support a large number of conventional as well as customerspecific
terminal devices and enable the integration of third party and mobile
telephony networks (GSM-R, DMR).
With our systems you are able to clearly and conveniently display and control communication
and information processes at a communications workstation. The workstations
can form control centres which service whole operating networks or sections.
Communications workstations (KAP) developed by Funkwerk ensure convenient
operation of the systems and optimum system overview of the integrated services, including
communication and video applications, control of announcements and displays.
PA and announcement systems
Electro-acoustic systems (ELA) and automatic announcement systems (ASAG)
round off the offer of stationary communication systems. In all areas of public life they
are an indispensable communication requirements and support safety and securityrelevant
systems.

Mobile communications systems
Information and Control
One for all - The on-board computer
Funkwerk has developed a compact on-board computer using state of the art
technologies to provide all-in-one infrastructure for mainline and regional
transport vehicles.
The modular design of the on-board computer enables retrofitting or replacement
of modules at any time with minimum cost and effort. The vehicles can be
equipped with individual passenger information systems, successively in line
with requirements. The on-board computer therefore ensures our customers a
high degree of investment security.
Apart from passenger information (announcement, display), the on-board
computer provides other interfaces with peripheral components (ticket cancelling
machines, passenger counting, infotainment, position finding, etc.).
It is also possible to link in video surveillance systems. The on-board computer
communicates with the management systems on the land side by radio
(WLAN, GSM, GPRS, GSM-R). The data transfer can take place at selected
locations (depot, railway station, line), or if necessary during the journey.
PA and announcement system
Funkwerk provides a PA and announcement system for informing travellers
in the vehicle especially for trains with UIC transit line. The train guard can
phone the engine driver via a call station as well as the stationary district control
centre via the train radiotelephony equipment.

Production
modern and flexible
Highly qualified, skilled personnel, optimised logistics, state of the art production
lines and control systems are basic requirements for the production of our
high-quality and safety-relevant products. From pre-assembly in the warehouse
to module production and final installation through to putting into service, we
attach the greatest possible importance to care and precision.
Production of printed circuit board assemblies
Printed circuit boards are produced by a flexible, fully automatic SMD assembly
line or at semi-automatic assembly workstations.
With attention to health and the environment, Funkwerk Kölleda has realised
RoHS-conforming printed board assemblies since 2006.
The large number of different printed circuit boards of our complex systems
requires a high degree of production flexibility and dynamism. Our automatic
printed circuit board production line is therefore designed for short retooling
times.
Device assembly
Difficult sub-assemblies, modules, devices and systems are produced at modern
workstations using screwed, jointing and crimping techniques.
Special test technologies ensure the quality of the products which are subjected
to a burn-in test (continuous running) for increased reliability requirements to
remove possible early failures.
Systems building and putting into service
Experienced, skilled employees and engineers with a high level of know-how
build complex communications systems in factory and on-site production,
measure them in and put them into service.

Quality management
An integral part of our business policy
Quality assurance is an integral part of our business policy and is a process
which penetrates the whole company.
Regularly performed audits ensure the effectiveness and updating of the control
and inspection processes.
Our quality management system makes project progress transparent and continuously
documents all steps in the collaboration with our customers. It has
a process-oriented structure and integrates the related requirements of occupational
and system safety. It is understood to be a priority corporate task
and was introduced, implemented and is monitored under the responsibility of
the executive management. External organisations are involved in the form of
services to provide expert support.
The procedures practiced within the company implement the DIN EN ISO
9001 process model.
All the necessary processes are defined in the quality management manual
(QMH).
Service and documentation
In the after-sales department we offer our customers a competent and comprehensive
service / customer service for our communications systems. This
includes sound technical product documentation and training.
