AMAZING ABSTRACT PAINTING<br />

This course will be an exploration in new concepts <strong>of</strong><br />
painting using water-based paints. Students will loosen<br />
up and learn freedom <strong>of</strong> expression, exploring color,<br />
composition and concepts in abstract painting. The color<br />
wheel will be explored as well as intuitive painting. The<br />
instructor will show examples <strong>of</strong> abstract paintings, with<br />
demonstrations given during each class.<br />

This course will teach students how to work in oil while the<br />
paint is open, without waiting to dry. Students will study good<br />
composition, application <strong>of</strong> color, as well as exploring value,<br />
tone, mood, and light & shade. Students will learn to work<br />
quickly and confidently.<br />

LANDSCAPE PAINTING IN ACRYLICS<br />

Explore techniques to capture the light, color and texture<br />
<strong>of</strong> the outdoors. Intermediate students will learn how to<br />
take a photographic ideal and transform it into an artistic<br />
composition. Incorporating a limited palette <strong>of</strong> colors, each<br />
student will create an exciting painting in their own unique<br />
style.<br />

SPRING STUDIO<br />

Intermediate to advanced levels<br />
This course is part <strong>of</strong> an ongoing series <strong>of</strong> studio courses<br />
in which students can get together with others to work<br />
on their individual projects, share ideas, and learn. The<br />
course consists entirely <strong>of</strong> independent work with individual<br />
assistance and help in problem analysis and solutions.<br />
Demonstrations are given as needed or requested. The course<br />
is open to anyone working in two-dimensional media. This<br />
includes artists in pastel, mixed media, watercolor, oil and<br />
acrylic paint. Students should come prepared to paint. If you<br />
are stuck for an idea, bring some photos. A file <strong>of</strong> reference<br />
pictures is available to borrow.<br />

PAINTING YOUR LIFE STORY<br />

Strong traditions <strong>of</strong> narrative painting permeate the<br />
history <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering artists powerful ways <strong>of</strong> exploring<br />
personally meaningful subject matter. This course is ideal for<br />
enthusiastic painters wishing to explore the autobiographical<br />
possibilities <strong>of</strong> painting. Students will compose still lifes<br />
(arrangements <strong>of</strong> personally meaningful objects) and<br />
tableaux (scenes with posed human figures) as their<br />
personal subjects.<br />

This enjoyable and relaxing course is for those who have had<br />
a beginning painting class. It will help the student progress<br />
and learn more about color, composition and finding their<br />
own style by translating a personal photo or photographs<br />
ACRYLIC PAINTING STUDIO<br />

Beginner and intermediate levels<br />
The first class will introduce concepts, topics and techniques<br />
from which to choose for projects. Those students wanting<br />
formal instruction will choose topics according to their<br />
personal interests and needs. Topics may include work in<br />
still life, landscape, portraits and composition. Students will<br />
develop their observation skills, brushwork and color mixing.<br />
All instructions will be followed by demonstrations and time<br />
for practice. Those wanting to pursue independent study will<br />
receive personal instruction as needed.<br />
