Information wish to share: Since 1987 or 1988 I have been interested in South Asian Primates, first being the Lion-tailed
macaque and Nilgiri langur as they were exhibited at Mysore Zoo. I helped Mr. Laurie Gledhill maintain the
India portion of the LTM studbook by hunting down data in Indian zoos and checking its accuracy when possible. In
1993 we (ZOO) organized a PHVA for LTM in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In about 1995 we (ZOO) organized a training in
Population Biology and Captive Management of LTM for a batch of foresters for a week and then a batch of zoo
personnel for a week. I followed up the recommendations from the PHVA with numerous reminders to the people
who had to implement them. In 2002 we (ZOO), with assistance from Dr. Ardith Eudey and Sanjay Molur, organized a
South Asian Primate CAMP workshop. Following that I was asked to develop the network of primatologists who
responded to the CAMP into a more cohesive group and convened the South Asian Primate Network. This directory
is part of the network activities. We have brought out several publications (kids packets, reports, summaries,
booklets, posters, etc.) with a lot of help from PSG and other sponsors. I gave a presentation entitled the Art and
Science of Primates in South Asia in the Australian zoo conference and two presentations at IPS on primate
education in our region and uses of the CAMP workshop. We organized a PHVA for Hoolock gibbon and an education
programme in India and Bangladesh. A series of teacher training workshop in northeast India combining Hoolock
gibbon with Tigers is planned for later in this year. I hope to attend IPS this year and present on education
networking for primates in South Asia and one on the Hoolock gibbon PHVA. Although I am not an academic I am
glad to find ways to contribute to primate conservation at my level.
I would like for all the primate biologists to sign up and send their c.v. so this directory will be a success
