15) Smith Family Robinson
Climbing in Smith Rock State Park, Oregon
Want to learn how to rock climb Know how to climb already Come! Join
us at Smith Rocks State Park in central Oregon for a week of climbing, camping,
and cooking. Smith Rocks is a world-class climbing area with thousands of
routes for all ability levels. Our typical Scramble day will start at a campsite not
far from Smith where we will be car camping, eating delicious food, going on

Year after year, Whitman College has brought Scramblers here to test their skills
as monkeys, and year after year they have left changed (for the better) by what
they experienced in the vertical world. Smith is the perfect environment to learn
about climbing, to get inspired by the scenery, and to challenge yourself. Midweek,
we’ll depart from Smith and enjoy a day where we have a chance to go
swimming and possibly boulder as well. Cool, clear water will be welcome after
several days of climbing. While this trip is open to anyone wishing to at least dip
his or her toes into climbing, it is not for the faint of heart. Once you are 80 feet
off the ground, things can look a little different.
