ACTIVITIES OF HIGH COURT LEGAL SERVICES COMMITTEE<br />
1. The 30th <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat <strong>for</strong> the month of January was held on 29.1.2011 in<br />
which Hon’ble Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Hon’ble Shri Justice S.C.Parija, Hon’ble Shri Justice B.K.Nayak,<br />
Hon’ble Shri Justice S.K.Mishra and Hon’ble Shri Justice B.K.Misra presided over the Lok Adalat Benches.<br />
In the above Lok Adalat 454 number of cases are disposed of in total which includes Motor Accident<br />
Claim Appeals, Contempt of <strong>Court</strong> matters by way of compromise. The General Insurance Companies agreed<br />
to pay compensation of Rs. 90,29,053/- (Ninety Lakh Twenty nine thousand fiftythree) only.<br />
2. The 1st <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Mega Lok Adalat was held on 26.2.2011 in which Hon’ble Shri Justice B.P.Das, Executive<br />
Chairman, <strong>Orissa</strong> State Legal Services Authority, Hon’ble Shri Justice L.Mohapatra, Chairman, <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong><br />
Legal Services Committee, Hon’ble Shri Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Hon’ble Shri Justice M.M.Das, Hon’ble<br />
Kumari Justice Sanju Panda, Hon’ble Shri Justice B.N.Mahapatra, Hon’ble Shri Justice S.C.Parija, Hon’ble<br />
Shri Justice B.K.Nayak, Hon’ble Shri Justice S.K.Mishra and Hon’ble Shri Justice B.K.Misra presided over the<br />
different Benches of Lok Adalat.<br />
In the above Mega Lok Adalat, 1644 number of cases are disposed of in total which includes Motor<br />
Accident Claim Appeals, Contempt of <strong>Court</strong> Matters, Land Acquisition Cases and other cases. The General<br />
Insurance Companies agreed to pay compensation of Rs. 65,08,220/- (Sixty five lakh, eight thousand, two<br />
hundred twenty) only.<br />
3. The 2nd <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Mega Lok Adalat was held on 26.3.2011 in which Hon’ble Shri Justice L.Mohapatra,<br />
Chairman, <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Legal Services Committee, Hon’ble Shri Justice C.R.Dash, and Hon’ble Shri Justice<br />
B.K.Misra presided over the different Benches of Lok Adalat.<br />
In the above Lok Adalat, 120 number of cases are disposed of in total which includes Civil and Criminal<br />
Writ Petition and Criminal Transfer petition.<br />
4. During the period under report, 47 applicants have been provided with the benefit under the scheme of Legal Aid<br />
and advice by the <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Legal Services Committee to file and defend their cases in the <strong>High</strong> <strong>Court</strong>.<br />
1. Lok Adalats<br />
ACTIVITIES OF ORISSA STATE LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY<br />
During the period from January, 2011 to March, 2011, State Level Lok Adalats were held at Sambalpur,<br />
Keonjhar, Bhubaneswar(Khurda), Jeypore(Koraput), Baripada(Mayurbhanj) and Sundargarh on 22.1.2011,12.2.2011,<br />
26.2.2011, 6.3.2011, 12.3.2011 and 26.3.2011 respectively, in which 439 number of Motor Accident Claim Cases<br />
have been settled/disposed of on conciliation basis and a total sum of Rs.5,76,77,255/- has been awarded as<br />
Compensation. Besides above 6315 no.of other cases have been disposed of in toto, which includes Civil-36,<br />
Criminal-2308, Revenue-3964 and Bank cases-07 and a sum of Rs.3,24,672/- towards Criminal fine and<br />
Rs.6,55,394 as Revenue due have been collected in the said Lok Adalats.<br />
Similarly, during the above quarter, 264 number of District and Taluk Level Lok Adalats and 312 number<br />
of Legal Literacy/Awareness Camps have been organized by the field units. In the above District and Taluk Level<br />
Lok Adalats, 95,098 no.of cases have been disposed of in total which include Civil-1707, Criminal-38,398,<br />
Revenue-50,602, Bank-3608, BSNL-518, Matrimonial-99, Labour-11 and MACT-155. Criminal fine of Rs.54,10,912
