and Rs.1,52,84,838/- as Revenue have been collected in the said Lok Adalat. Further, a sum of Rs.3,05,60,500/
- has also been awarded as Compensation in the above MACT cases.
2. Mediation Programme
On 13.1.2011, a District Mediation Centre has been established in the District Court Premises at Puri by
Hon’ble Shri Justice V. Gopala Gowda, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court and Patron-in-Chief of the Orissa State
Legal Services Authority in presence of Hon’ble Shri Justice B.P.Das, Executive Chairman of this Authority,
Hon’ble Sri Justice P.K.Mohanty, Judge, Orissa High Court along with other Judicial Officers, and other Members
of the local Bar Association were also present in the said occasion.
During the period under report, out of the 639 no.of referred cases. 123 no.of cases have been disposed
of through mediation in the District Medication Centres.
3. Legal Aid Beneficiaries
Free Legal Aid and assistance has been provided to the 727 no.of beneficiaries, which include SC-90, ST-
45, OBC-19, Women-314, Children-03, In-custody-62 and other weaker sections of the Society-194.
4. Legal Literacy/Awarenes Campaign
(a) The Orissa State Legal Services Authority organized a two days Workshop on “Violence Against
Women” on 13 th and 14 th February, 2011 at Cuttack with the support of Multiple Action Research Group”MARG”,
New Delhi involving judicial officers including regular Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities, selected
panel lawyer-retainers of District Legal Services Authorities, Protection Officers under PWDV Act, Police Officers,
Representatives of NGOs etc. The Inaugural Session of the Workshop was held in New Conference Hall
of Orissa High Court on 13.2.2011. Hon’ble Mr.Justice Altamas Kabir, Judge, Supreme Court of India and
Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority was pleased to inaugurate the workshop in august
present of Hon’ble Sri Justice A.K.Patnaik, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Sri Justice V.Gopala Gowda,
Chief Justice, Orissa High Court, Hon’ble Sri Justice B.P.Das, Executive Chairman of Orissa State Legal
Services Authority, Hon’ble Mr.Justice L.Mohapatra, Chairman, Orissa High Court Legal Services Committee,
other Hon’ble Judges of Orissa High Court, Sri Gopal Subramanium, Solicitor General, Government of India,
Mr.U.Sarathchandran, Member Secretary, National Legal Services Authority and other guests and dignitaries.
The Technical Sessions of the workshop were conducted in the New Conference Hall of Orissa High Court
on 13.2.2011 and at Hotel Dwaraka, Cuttack on 14.2.2011. Sri U.Sarathchandran, Member Secretary,NALSA,
Sri Anjan Kumar Das, Judge, Family Court, Cuttack, Sri D.Rout, District Judge, Bhubaneswar and Sri S.Pujahari,
Member Secretary, Orissa State Legal Services Authority chaired different Technical Sessions and moderated
the proceedings. Sri Satyajit Mohanty, I.G.of Police-cum-Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy,
Dr.D.P.Choudhury, Director, Orissa Judicial Academy, Smt.Sujata Jena, Advocate, Orissa High Court, Smt.Snigdha
Panigrahi, Member , Orissa State Legal Services Authority, Ms.Sneha Mishra, Social Activist, Ms.Farhat Amin,
Social Activist, Ms.Anju Talukdar, Director, MARG and her associate Ms.Kiran Singh were the resource persons
who enlightened the participants on different aspects of the subject in the workshop.
(b) On 8.3.2011, the Orissa State Legal Services Authority in association with High Court Bar Association,
Cuttack observed “International Women’s Day” in the Conference Hall of the Orissa High Court., as per instruction
of National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi. All the 30 District Legal Services
Authorities and 73 Taluk Legal Services Committee have also observed the “International Women’s Day”
by organizing Legal Literacy Camps.
