FROM THE DESK OF CHIEF JUSTICE May 29, 2011 This is the XVth Issue of the Court News and I have great pleasure in releasing the same. This Issue covers in brief the happenings in the State Judiciary during the first quarter of 2011. The first quarter of 2011 was eventful. The senior most District Judge of the State was elevated to the Bench of this Court and took oath of office on 25th of January, 2011. The East Zone Regional Judicial Conference was inaugurated in the New Conference Hall of the Orissa High Court on 20th of January, 2011 by his Excellency Mr. M.C.Bhandare, the Governor of Orissa. Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.S.Chauhan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.K.Patnaik, Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.K.Sharma, Judges of the Supreme Court and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Madan B.Lokur, Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, Chief Justice, Delhi High Court and Judges from other High Courts and of this Court participated in the deliberations in the different sessions of the Conference. The valedictory address was delivered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dalveer Bhandari, Judge, Supreme Court of India on 30th of January, 2011. During this quarter Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.H.Kapadia, Chief Justice of India visited the State and interacted with some of the Judicial Officers of the State. His Lordship stressed the need of reduction of pendency of cases and infrastructural development in the District Judiciary for enhancing quality of justice.
