Local Communities and
Main Street Pride
Wright-Patt Credit Union is growing. With the addition of new Member
Centers in Beavercreek and Urbana, we now have 22 Member Centers
to serve you. Our goal is to improve access for members throughout
the Dayton region, so we’re looking into additional locations to bring
the value of Wright-Patt closer to home for everybody.
For us, opening a new location is more than brick and mortar. It’s an opportunity to invest in
local communities where members live. Murals in our newest Member Centers feature local
landmarks like the Veterans Memorial in Beavercreek and Grimes Field in Urbana. As I’ve said
before, Wright-Patt Credit Union serves Main Street, not Wall Street. We’re all about making
our communities better places to live.
People Before Profits
We often hear that Wright-Patt offers products and services you would expect from a
large corporation but with a “small-town” flavor. I like that. We take pride in this reputation
because it shows we can offer great value to members while maintaining our commitment
to a philosophy of “people before profits.”
People are truly the heart of WPCU. Our Savings Race families live in your communities –
Fairborn, Troy, Miamisburg, Kettering, and Springboro. We have invited you to follow their
stories and join them for Savings Race Pit Stops to start your own financial tune-up. I am
impressed by their hard work and dedication to a savings makeover and encourage you to
follow their stories at www.wpcu.coop/savingsrace.
Your Board of Directors is also made up of folks from our communities who volunteer their
time to help us better serve our members. They are your neighbors and your co-workers,
and they’re members just like you. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to vote in the Board
of Directors election online by logging in to your Home Banking account by February 17th
(mail ballots are also available).
Finally, my only request of you is that you tell your family, friends, and co-workers about the
benefits of being a member of Wright-Patt Credit Union and how WPCU is a vital part of your
community. We welcome the opportunity to have your friends and family become a part of
ours because the more people who take part in our credit union, the more value we’re able
to deliver to everybody. Thanks for being a member.
Wright-Patt’s HomeWorld ‘09
Homeworld ‘09 Has Something for Everyone!
Whether you’re ready to make improvements to your home,
looking for inspiration for a project, or want to learn more about
the latest home products, Wright-Patt’s HomeWorld ’09 has
something for you! Join us Thursday, February 5th through
Sunday, February 8th at the Dayton Exposition Center at the
Dayton International Airport for do-it-yourself workshops,
educational seminars, and displays.
“We already had our checking account with Wright-Patt, so we
started there when we needed a loan to fix up our home. We used
our Home Equity Line of Credit to repair our roof, to replace our
entry door, remodel our bathroom, and work on our deck and fence.
It definitely improved the value of our house a lot! Now we are
buying another home. We learned first-hand that banks are really
tough to deal with now. One bank wouldn’t even talk to us unless
we had 20% for a down payment and 6 months of retirement
savings in reserves for each of us…and even then we weren’t
guaranteed the loan. At Wright-Patt we were pre-approved for a
loan and we only needed to put 5% down as a down payment.”
Scott and Beverly H.
Members since 2000
Wright-Patt will be giving away prizes including a digital camera,
TV, multi-tool kit, and more! So be sure to fill out your entry card
and stop by our booth to learn more about all your credit union
has to offer! Tickets are available during show hours at the front
entrance of the Expo Center. For more information about this year’s
Special Patronage Dividend of Over
$3 MILLION
Paid to Our Members
Wright-Patt Paid Me Back!
“With all you’re hearing about financial institutions it’s
really comforting to know that the credit union is not taking
risks with my money, and instead of being in trouble they
actually have money to give back to their shareholders with
the Special Patronage Dividend. I have to say, though, that it
doesn’t surprise me because of my positive experiences with
the credit union over the years!”
Most Americans could use some extra money these days. Follow
these useful tips to reduce your winter energy bill and keep more
of your hard-earned money!
1. By turning down your home thermostat two degrees you’ll save
24 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a month. Kilowatt-hours are how the
electric company measures and bills for the electricity you use.
Every little bit helps!
2. Avoid turning your thermostat up and down dramatically
because it wastes energy and increases your heating costs.
3. Lower your hot water thermostat 10 degrees. This will save you
25 kWh a month and still provide you with all the hot water you need.
4. Stop the draft coming from your windows by lining them with a
clear film insulator.
5. Fix leaky faucets - one drip a second is 20 kWh a month.
6. Look for the “Energy Star” when buying major appliances.
This indicates that the appliance meets or exceeds standards
set by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA).
7. Consider a front-loading washing machine. They use 50% less
energy and one-third less water. They also remove far more water
in the rinse cycle which translates into big savings in dryer time.
8. Choose a roof for your home based on its energy efficiency
rather than how it looks. Materials that are light-colored, such
as white, galvanized metal or cement tile, do the best job of
reflecting the sun and cool quickly at night.
For additional energy saving tips visit the U.S. Department of
Energy at www.energysavers.gov.
Eight Simple Ways to Save on Energy Costs
SKIP-A-PAY TODAY!
If you’re feeling the effects of too much holiday spending or if
money is tight due to a layoff in your family you may be able to free
up some cash by skipping your personal loan payment this month!
Wright-Patt offers you the option to skip one payment per year on
your WPCU personal loan for a small $5.00 processing fee. Skip-a-Pay
SKIP-A-PAY
is easy - just login to online Home Banking or call the Member Help
Center at (937) 912-7000 or toll-free at (800) 762-0047 to sign up.
You can request your skipped payment up to 6 months in advance at
which time it will be automatically processed for you. Keep in mind
the skipped payment will not incur a late fee but finance charges will
continue to accrue on the loan.
To be eligible you must have a positive balance, no late payment history on the loan of more
than 31 days, have had the loan more than six months, and be current on all your WPCU loans.
CHECK FRAUD
Protect Yourself from Check Fraud!
Have you received an email offering you money to be a secret
shopper Has someone promised to pay more than the asking price
for items you’re selling online if you’ll wire money to a third party
These are just two of the ways you could become a victim of check
fraud. Money is tight for many of us these days and offers for quick
cash may seem tempting. But remember – if it sounds too good to
be true it probably is!
make sure your hard-earned money stays in your pocket. It can be
difficult to spot a fake check – that’s why your credit union is here
to help. If you have questions or concerns about a check or offer
you have received bring the check and any accompanying emails,
letters, or envelopes to a Member Center so a Member Service
Representative or Manager can help determine if the check or offer
is legitimate.
If you were to unknowingly deposit a fake check to your Wright-Patt
account you would be held responsible for the funds. We want to
FINANCE QUICK TIP
Double your Money!
To find out how long it will take to double the money you’ve
invested, divide the interest rate on your current investments into
72. For example if your current interest rate is 9%, you would
figure 72 ÷ 9 = 8 years for your money to double without
adding any additional funds. The calculation works whether
you’ve invested $500 or $50,000 and your money will grow
even quicker if you continue to add to your investments!
