Meet Spencer Stevenson
BIFA has appointed a member relationship and information manager
manager, developing an in-depth
knowledge of export air cargo.
After this he spent two years as a
sales executive with PSL Air, before
joining Yamato Transport Europe in
2002.
BIFA is pleased to announce the
appointment of Spencer
Stevenson to the role of
member relationship and information
manager. Spencer’s challenge is
to improve communications to the
BIFA members at all levels. His
responsibilities include to:
● Review and facilitate pro-active
improvement programmes for the
current systems and databases
operated by BIFA.
● Modernise the already much
improved BIFA website.
● Research and implement a
programme for social media.
● Investigate electronic delivery of
BIFA training programmes
(e-Learning).
● Communicate more relevant
information direct to the individuals
within members.
● Provide easier access to the fountain
of knowledge which is the
BIFA library.
● Actively encourage member
participation in the running of
BIFA’s council, committees and
policy groups.
The forwarding industry runs in
Spencer’s blood, his father being
Colin Stevenson, a former regional
director of IATA.

Spencer has 22 years of experience in the
forwarding industry
over 22 years, the first 12 of those
being with MSAS Cargo International
in Reading where he began as
an export clerk and worked his way
through the ranks to branch
Knowledge
It was during his eight years with
Yamato that he developed a broad
spectrum of knowledge across international
trade and freight forwarding
encompassing import and export by
all modes of transport, customs
warehousing, customs procedures
and compliance, project work and
logistics.
Spencer is married with two
daughters and five grandchildren.
He sees his position at BIFA as a
tremendous opportunity to use the
knowledge he has gained to benefit
the Association and its members,
giving something back to an industry
that has supported him during
his entire working life. ■
