Australia will host the <strong>6th</strong> World <strong>Brangus</strong> Congress in Rockhampton, Australia in May 2012.<br />

As such I am delighted to invite you, your partner, family, friends and industry colleagues to<br />

attend the <strong>6th</strong> World <strong>Brangus</strong> Congress.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Congress will incorporate an exciting series of events scheduled around the Beef Australia<br />

2012 Exposition. Staged in Australia’s Beef Capital, Rockhampton, the beef expositions have<br />

become an icon event for the Australian beef industry. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Brangus</strong> breed is a feature on the<br />

Beef Australia 2012 program with over 250 <strong>Brangus</strong> animals entered in the prestigious Stud<br />

<strong>Cattle</strong> Competition.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>6th</strong> <strong>Brangus</strong> World Congress is expected to draw <strong>Brangus</strong> breeders and enthusiasts from<br />

across Australia and the world. <strong>The</strong> Congress aims to foster and develop the relationships<br />

between all the International <strong>Brangus</strong> Associations, act as a means of updating all interested<br />

parties on news and developments related to breeding and marketing <strong>Brangus</strong> <strong>Cattle</strong>, and this<br />

year will also allow the Australian <strong>Brangus</strong> <strong>Cattle</strong> Association an opportunity to showcase our<br />

fantastic Australian <strong>Brangus</strong> <strong>Cattle</strong> and our beautiful and diverse country.<br />

OPTION 1 Long Tour Sydney to Rockhampton April 30 - May 6<br />

Monday 30th April Day 1 - Arrive in Sydney<br />

International flights met at Sydney Airport. Transfer to central Sydney hotel overnight. Take<br />

an optional Sydney Harbour Cruise or a city sights tour of the city. Attend a formal welcome<br />

cocktail function in evening, hosted by NSW State Government and Austrade, at the top of one<br />

of Sydney’s tallest buildings.<br />

Tuesday 1st May Day 2 - Sydney to Armidale<br />

Depart after breakfast and travel through Sydney’s northern beaches and then continue via<br />

the Hunter Valley to Ram Station at Dungog. Andrew Melville will be your host and after<br />

viewing their black <strong>Brangus</strong> herd, enjoy a lunch featuring the famous Hunter Valley wines<br />

then travel onto the university city of Armidale.<br />

Wednesday 2nd May Day 3 - Armidale to Delungra to Goondiwindi<br />

Morning visit to AGBU (Animal Genetics Breeding Unit) located at the University of New<br />

England and later depart Armidale and travel to Belview <strong>Brangus</strong> stud at Delungra where<br />

there’s the opportunity to see cattle worked with dogs by Trevor and Colleen Jorgensen.<br />

Thursday 3rd May Day 4 - Goondiwindi to Roma<br />

Travel north to Roma and visit local attractions and the cattle sale yards. Afterwards travel to<br />

Duarran <strong>Brangus</strong> Stud to inspect cattle and enjoy an evening dinner function, arranged by Ian<br />

and Anne Galloway. Meals: B,L,D,Overnight: Roma<br />

Friday 4th May Day 5 - Roma to Emerald<br />

In the morning visit A.C.C. Feedlot, located 3/4 hr north of Roma followed by visits to the<br />

Emerald District properties of ‘Lunar’ and ‘Jett’ <strong>Brangus</strong> studs. Afterwards visit Arcadia Valley<br />

and then continue on to the Emerald Dinner hosted by <strong>Brangus</strong> breeders.<br />

Saturday 5th May Day 6 - Emerald<br />

Visits in the Emerald area include stud visits and the Agricultural College at Emerald<br />

Depart Emerald this morning and travel to Barlow <strong>Cattle</strong> Company, for a cattle inspection and<br />

lunch. After lunch continue on to Rockhampton and arrive at your Congress motel. Remainder<br />

of the afternoon is free before the evening Congress welcome “Meet & Greet” function.<br />

Visit “Nindooinbah” to look at their Embryo Transplant Program involving Angus, <strong>Brangus</strong><br />

and Brahman genetics - lunch on property. Travel further north to Gympie. Visit Stephen<br />

and Karyn Duff’s Red <strong>Brangus</strong> stud and the nearby Yabba-Do <strong>Brangus</strong> stud of Naomi Cooney<br />

featuring USA/Australian bloodlines. Dinner with local cattlemen at Gympie.<br />

Saturday 5th May Day 3 - Gympie to Biloela<br />

Travel north to Eidsvold to visit Peter, Kristine and Kristopher Dingle’s Redline <strong>Brangus</strong> stud<br />

for ‘morning tea’ and inspect their cattle. <strong>The</strong>n travel through the granite flats and bottletree<br />

scrub to Australia’s oldest <strong>Brangus</strong> Stud, Bimbadeen, followed by lunch with Bimbadeen’s<br />

Mark and Amanda Salisbury and Bruce and Barb Burnham. Dinner and entertainment with<br />

local <strong>Brangus</strong> <strong>Breeders</strong>. Meals: B,L,D Overnight: Biloela<br />

Sunday <strong>6th</strong> May Day 4 - Biloela to Rockhampton<br />

Visit a leading commercial cattle property and take an early lunch before the last short drive<br />

on to Rockhampton. Arrive at your Congress Motel. Rest time before the evening Congress<br />

After arriving in Rockhampton enjoy the first gathering of the Congress at an evening<br />

Meet & Greet being held at the Brothers Leagues Club Rockhampton. This will be a<br />

great chance to shake off the travel dust, catch up with old friends and meet fellow<br />

<strong>Brangus</strong> breeders from around the world. Meals: Light meal & some drinks<br />

Monday 7th May<br />

Morning - Commercial <strong>Cattle</strong> Championships<br />

Start the day at the famous Gracemere Saleyards inspecting over 2000 head of<br />

commercial cattle entered in the Commercial <strong>Cattle</strong> Championships.<br />

Lunch - Big Beef BBQ After a morning assessing beef on the hoof, head back<br />

to the Showgrounds in Rockhampton for the World’s Biggest BBQ lunch.<br />

Afternoon/Evening - Property Tour & Camp Oven Dinner<br />

After a busy morning and hearty lunch, climb aboard our luxury coach, sit back &<br />

relax and enjoy the drive out to ‘Doonside’ where we will join the Geddes family for<br />

a tour of their property and a good old-fashioned campfire meal under the stars.<br />

Tuesday 8th May<br />

Morning/Afternoon - Seminar & Technical Forum<br />

An action-packed technical program will be held at the Brothers’ Leagues Club.<br />

<strong>The</strong> program includes presentations detailing <strong>Brangus</strong> activity from around the<br />

world and the latest scientific and groundbreaking initiatives in the industry.<br />

Evening - Paradise Lagoons Dinner<br />

Visit one of Australia’s most famous Campdrafting venues for the evening.<br />

<strong>The</strong> complex is located on the Paradise Lagoons property just southwest of<br />

Rockhampton. It was designed and constructed specifically for the Australian<br />

developed sport of campdrafting. Enjoy the evening experiencing working dog and<br />

campdrafting demonstrations while dining on a fabulous 3 course dinner. You will<br />

also be entertained by some great horsemen and raconteurs. Meals: L,D<br />

Wednesday 9th May<br />

Morning - Stud <strong>Cattle</strong> Judging<br />

See the best of Australian <strong>Brangus</strong> in Centre Ring, as Beef Australia 2012 gets serious<br />

with cattle judging. Judging of the <strong>Brangus</strong> takes place in the centre arena of the<br />

showgrounds, with numerous other breeds also being judged nearby.<br />

Evening - Golden Jubilee Bull & Heifer Sale<br />

<strong>The</strong> cream of the crop goes under the hammer with an elite led cattle sale under<br />

lights.Help raise money for the youth club by purchasing a donated heifer or secure<br />

the rights to a genetics package. Drinks, nibbles and music will be provided. Stay on<br />

at the showgrounds to enjoy dinner or head back to the main arena to be enthralled<br />

by the ‘Man from Snowy River’ arena spectacular.<br />

Thursday 10th May<br />

Morning - Free Time To Explore Beef 2012<br />

Visit the huge trade fair with over 400 sites. Attend a seminar, watch celebrity chefs<br />

in action, catch a fashion parade or wander the stud cattle pavilions. Visit the Beef<br />

cattle precinct featuring the latest genetics research, developments and technical<br />

displays, or enjoy some of the live entertainment being held around the grounds.<br />

Afternoon - Interbreed Championships<br />

Don’t miss the incredible spectacle of the Interbreed Championships being held<br />

on Centre Ring. Help cheer on our <strong>Brangus</strong> champions as they go up against the<br />

Champions from over 30 other breeds.<br />

Evening - Congress Gala Dinner<br />

A fabulous farewell evening of great food, wine and dancing to wind up the Congress<br />

week of action. It is being held in the Australian Shearing Shed at the Rockhampton<br />

Heritage Village and will feature live Australian country rock music.<br />

Friday 11th May<br />

All day - Final Day Of Beef Australia 2012<br />

Enjoy another day at the showgrounds, watch the Junior Stud judging, attend a<br />

Seminar, browse the Trade Fair or enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants. Stay on for<br />

the Community concert that evening... Or<br />

Explore the host city of Rockhampton, Australia’s Beef Capital. Visit the Botanic<br />

Gardens, stroll down historic Quay Street, enjoy shopping in East Street, head out<br />

to the Dreamtime Cultural Centre or catch a Rodeo at the Great Western Hotel... Or<br />

Say farewell to Rockhampton and head to Melbourne to take part in our 5 day post<br />

Congress tour departing on Saturday 12th May. This tour travelling from Melbourne<br />

to Canberra offers a unique experience of beautiful and historical rural Victoria and<br />

the ACT.<br />

Throughout - <strong>Brangus</strong> Boulevard For the duration of the <strong>Brangus</strong><br />

World Congress and Beef Australia 2012 the <strong>Brangus</strong> Boulevard will provide a<br />

great central point for members and overseas visitors to gather and relax, catch up,<br />

discuss business or use as a meeting point. It is centrally located between the <strong>Cattle</strong><br />

Pavilions, Centre Ring and the Trade Fair and will feature a display of <strong>Brangus</strong> cattle.

Post Congress Tours<br />

Melbourne to Canberra May 12 - 16<br />

Saturday 12th May Day 1 - Rockhampton to Phillip Island<br />

Arrive Tullamarine Airport Melbourne no later than 2.00pm to meet coach captain and tour<br />

leaders. Travel directly to Cowes on Phillip Island. Check into motel for dinner. This evening see<br />

the world famous penguin parade as they waddle to shore after dark<br />

Sunday 13th May Day 2 - Phillip Island to Milawa<br />

Travel to Kimberley Downs <strong>Brangus</strong>. Enjoy a cattle and property inspection. Depart Kimberley<br />

Downs <strong>Cattle</strong> Stud and take in the picturesque countryside of North East Victoria on the way to<br />

Milawa. Accommodation for the next two nights is a 5 star motel right in the heart of Milawa<br />

wine and cheese district.<br />

Monday 14th May Day 3 - Milawa and Staghorn Flat<br />

<strong>The</strong> itinerary today will include a stop-over at Jakara <strong>Brangus</strong> (Ron & Penny Herrin) at Staghorn<br />

Flat which is on the border of Victoria and New South Wales. Continue onto the historical gold<br />

mining town of Beechworth. Return to Milawa. Enjoy wine tasting at the renowned Brown<br />

Brothers Winery and a visit to the Milawa cheese factory<br />

Tuesday 15th May Day 4 - Milawa to Jindabyne<br />

This morning depart Milawa and travel through the spectacular Snowy Mountains on the scenic Alpine<br />

Way. Stop near Khancoban to visit the working power station of Murray. Drive to Scammells Lookout and<br />

enjoy the spectacular views of Mt Kosciusko (Australia’s highest peak at 2228m). Continue through the<br />

National Park stopping for a picnic lunch at Geehi River Camp Ground. After lunch the road climbs through<br />

Deadhorse Gap to the Thredbo Alpine Village. Next visit Thredbo Valley Whiskey Distillery for a tasting session<br />

and afternoon tea. A short drive to accommodation at Jindabyne overlooking the beautiful Lake Jindabyne.<br />

Wednesday 1<strong>6th</strong> May Day 5 - Jindabyne to Canberra<br />

Final day includes a morning visit to a <strong>Brangus</strong> and Braford Commercial herd at Ingebyra (Milton<br />

Golby). Continue on to Canberra for tours of Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial.<br />

How to Book!<br />

<strong>The</strong> first of the Beef Australia expositions took place in 1988 as part of Australia’s<br />

bicentennial year as a celebratory event for the beef industry. <strong>The</strong> inaugural Beef 88 event<br />

was so successful organisers decided to run a similar event in 1991 and triennially thereafter<br />

with the most recent success being Beef Australia 2009.<br />

Over the years the expositions have grown in size, impact and sophistication with a continued<br />

increase in participation and visitation by both members of the beef industry and lovers of<br />

beef alike. Over 68,000 people attended Beef Australia 2009 including 461 delegates from<br />

32 countries. 400 Trade Fair exhibitors showcased their wares at Beef Australia 2009.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Brangus</strong> breed is a feature on the Beef Australia 2012 program with over 250 <strong>Brangus</strong><br />

animals entered in the prestigious Stud <strong>Cattle</strong> Competition.<br />
