IMMUNOSUPPRESSION 2007: 

The Ongoing Search for Improvement 

The congress will focus on immunosuppressive protocols used at different times posttransplant, including efforts to 

improve posttransplant patient and graft survival and to decrease posttransplant morbidity. A major component will 

be the opportunity to interact with faculty who use different immunosuppressive protocols. Arguments for and 

against each protocol will be raised and discussed. Sessions will be devoted to the need (or lack thereof) for steroid 

and/or calcineurin inhibitors and to differing immunosuppressive protocols for the sensitized recipient and recipients 

of ECD and DCD kidneys. 

In addition, plenary lectures will address the supply of organs, antibody-mediated rejection, risk factors for poor longterm 

outcome, immunosuppression for high-risk groups, and protocols utilizing new immunosuppressive agents. 

Again this year we are offering a pre-conference session and afternoon sessions for transplant coordinators. Please 

see the details inside this announcement.

• Describe the risks (donor and patient) 

associated with transplantation 

• Describe the indications and 

contraindications of the highly sensitized 

and desensitized patient 

• Discuss methods to improve long-term 

recipient survival 

• Describe the new therapies and treatment 

options for transplantation 

• Discuss new immunosuppressive drugs, and 

new protocols to improve long-term graft 

survival (and function), and to minimize 

morbidity (including calcineurin-sparing and 

steroid-sparing protocols)
