Affiliates and Geographic Funds working in local communities Rifle Community Foundation A new Endowment Partnership Since 2008, our regional Community Foundation is pleased to be working in partnership with the Rifle Community Foundation. Rifle leaders want to attract more private donations to support their annual grants process and to invite Rifle residents to invest in their community by creating endowment funds. A new endowment to provide merit awards for academic excellence at Rifle High School was established by a long-time Rifle family with a commitment to public education. Notes Rifle Mayor Keith Lambert who serves on the Rifle Community Foundation board, “Our ability to further our cause in Rifle will be greatly enhanced through our affiliation with WCCF.” 2 Rivers Community Foundation Successful first year for Affiliation 2008 was the first year of affiliation between the 2 Rivers Community Foundation in Glenwood Springs and our regional Community Foundation. We hired a part-time staff person to work more actively in Glenwood and other communities in Garfield County. A number of new donors set up funds and are considering charitable endowment legacy gifts to benefit the communities they call home. Mt. Callahan Community Fund Celebrating Parachute’s 100th anniversary The Town of Parachute celebrated its centennial in 2008. In honor of this milestone, the Mt. Callahan Community Fund launched a campaign to raise $100,000 for its community endowment. Community-minded citizens and businesses donated to this campaign. Over the course of six years, the Mt. Callahan Community Fund has distributed $75,000 to local organizations benefiting the citizens of Parachute and Battlement Mesa. The larger endowment will provide permanent funding to benefit these communities. Thank you to these generous donors to the Parachute 100/100 campaign: Alpine Bank of Battlement Mesa Judith Hayward Betty and George Letson Ivo and Betty Lindauer Tom and Lou Roess Lynn and Lynn Shore Town of Parachute Partnerships between smaller community foundations and regional or statewide community foundations can increase administrative efficiencies and program effectiveness. Such affiliations are proving highly successful in rural parts of the country where limited population numbers make sustaining a full-service community foundation difficult. The local community foundation brings its own leadership and visibility in the community, as well as an extensive knowledge of community needs, programs and resources. The regional community foundation brings strong backoffice administration systems and endowment management expertise to the affiliation. These affiliations are “win-win” for both the local and the regional community foundations. • • • •

The dollar amount may represent more than one grant. A small number of grants made to organizations outside western Colorado are not listed. PROMOTING LITERACY Grand Valley Catholic Outreach’s Book-in- Hand program provided almost 1,000 new books to children between ages one and six. NEW HOSPICE CARE CENTER OPENS Many of our donor advisors provided funding for the recently completed Heart of Care campaign to build this state-of-the art facility.
