and expand opportunities.
WCCF currently manages thirteen
different scholarship programs
established by our donors.
We help refine eligibility guidelines
and criteria for scholarships,
advertise the availability of
scholarships, review applications,
interview students, and verify
enrollment and grades.
Laura Genelin was in her mid-40s when she was
diagnosed with cancer. A wife and mother of
three children, a teacher and an active school and
community volunteer in Eagle, CO, Laura always
exhibited a zest for life. She loved living in the Vail
Valley. Favorite pastimes included skiing, snowshoeing,
scuba diving and being outdoors. When she passed
away in 2008, her family and friends established a
scholarship fund to benefit students graduating from
public high schools in Eagle County who want to
become teachers or to study health and medicine.
Notes her husband, Paul, “Laura left us way too soon.
But her spirit can live on through this scholarship. She was a teacher. She was always
interested in better medicines to enhance life. We do this to remember and honor her.”
J. Robert Young Scholarship Fund
Honoring a long-time champion of education
Alpine Bank prides itself on being a locally-owned
bank serving 20 counties in western Colorado. In
honor of the Bank’s 35th anniversary, employees
made donations that were then matched by the bank
to capitalize a new scholarship fund. Named after
Alpine Bank’s Chairman and CEO, the J. Robert Young
Scholarship Fund will award scholarships each year
to young people graduating from public high schools
in communities served by Alpine Bank who have
demonstrated good academic performance and are
interested in pursuing a business degree. Notes Kris
Gardner, Executive Vice President at the Bank, “We
wanted to do something that both honored Bob and
would help the communities we serve. Bob has always been dedicated to providing young
people with a college education. This seems like a natural way for our Bank to celebrate its
35th year in business.”
