"Saturday, October 7.-- Alex<strong>and</strong>er <strong>Brebner</strong>, groom, was charged with having, on the 25th <strong>of</strong> July last culpably, carelessly <strong>and</strong> recklessly<br />
driven a horse <strong>and</strong> gig along the public road leading from Burntisl<strong>and</strong> to Thornton, in consequence <strong>of</strong> which the shaft <strong>of</strong> the gig, at a place<br />
in Gallatown, came in contact with Lillias Brochie <strong>and</strong> knocked her down, <strong>and</strong> the wheel <strong>of</strong> the gig having passed over her, she was<br />
considerably bruised <strong>and</strong> wounded, <strong>and</strong> had seven <strong>of</strong> her ribs broken. He pleaded not guilty, <strong>and</strong> a pro<strong>of</strong> being led, the jury found him guilty<br />
<strong>of</strong> culpable <strong>and</strong> reckless driving, <strong>and</strong> he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment."<br />
