A Letter to the Community…
Each year in March, Ohio celebrates DD Awareness
Month with a special theme to unify events
and public awareness campaigns throughout
the state. This year’s theme focusing on TO-
GETHER … INSPIRING POSSIBILITIES
AND BRIGHTER FUTURES has been a
cornerstone of the Lake County Board of Developmental
Disabilities/Deepwood’s mission
from its inception in the early 1960s. Through
the tireless advocacy of Lake County families and
individuals with disabilities, LCBDD/Deepwood
programs and services were locally established long before
mandated by state-wide statute. LCBDD/Deepwood has
grown from a handful of families seeking educational services for their
children to more than 1,900 individuals of all ages seeking multifaceted,
community-integrated services and supports.
While there are many measures an Agency may use to assess its progress,
there are no more significant nor meaningful indicators than the
people and the community served. Our
Agency annually assesses its progress
through a series of consumer satisfaction
surveys. In 2010, we received an 96%
overall satisfaction rating from our consumers—exceptional
aggregate feedback
that reinforces our continuing quest to
INSPIRE POSSIBILITIES by coordinating
the broadest scope of options and
highest quality of programs and services
for individuals served, while maintaining
fiscal responsibility. On a more personal
basis, the individual successes and accomplishments
of the individuals we
serve reinforce the BRIGHTER FU-
TURES that our Lake County citizens
have so strongly supported. We can offer
thousands of individual profiles of such
accomplishments, gains, and BRIGHT
FUTURES…and invite Lake County
citizens to personally share in these
accomplishments by visiting and/or
volunteering in our many programs and
functions…snapshots of TOGETHER
that we proudly share in this 2010 Annual
Report!
Our thanks to all the individuals we
serve, their families, staff, volunteers,
organizations, and the Lake County
community for the ongoing support that
assures “Together, our future is brighter,
we accomplish more, inspire possibilities,
and everybody wins!”

BUILDING BONDS DAY
The Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood experienced much joy, laughter, and memorable
moments during “Building Bonds Day” when one hundred and twenty (120) volunteers from the Western
Reserve Junior Service League (WRJSL) and Lubrizol Corporation converged on the Deepwood Campus.
They came together to generously donate their time, expertise, resources, and commitment to enrich the lives of
individuals served by the Board. During the day, the volunteers produced a carnival, hosted a picnic, painted various
residential rooms, cleaned-up a walking trail, landscaped around agency signs and gardens, and cleaned windows.
It was an incredible experience for everyone involved. The memories of the day remain even though the sounds of
the sing- along, slurping of snow cones, taste of the hot dogs and smell of fresh paint fade. Thanks to the generosity
of the member of the Western Reserve Junior Service League and employees of Lubrizol Corporation many lives
were impacted and the campus was transformed by the end of “Building Bonds Day.”
Broadmoor School Graduation
On Tuesday evening, June 1, 2010, with much fanfare and excitement, seven
students from Broadmoor School graduated. The seven graduates were Brittany
Brothers, Eliyahu Compton, Ashlee Dorchock, Jake Jackman, Garry Patla, Edward
Slupek and Mary Jane Voelker. The graduates were recognized individually
for accomplishments
throughout their lives.
The graduation ceremony
marked the joyous
milestone each student has
reached with video, speeches
and the presentation of
diplomas and gifts. State of
Ohio Representative Ms.
Lorraine Fende gave the
commencement address,
Ms. Elfriede Roman, Mr.
Gary Humble and Mr.
Daniel P. Troy, President of
the Lake County Commissioners presented each graduate a resolution of recognition.
Mr. Humble, Ms. Roman, Ms. Margie Meehan-O’Connor, and Ms. Natalie Tetzlaff
presented the diplomas and graduation gifts.
The graduation ceremony was a touching tribute to the graduates and their families.
