Chili Cook-Off Proceeds Go To Worthy Cause
Members of Lake County Board of
Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood,
Willoughby Workshop’s Consumers
Advocacy Committee delivered a $250
donation to Ronald MacDonald House
in Cleveland.
The Willoughby Workshop sponsors
one of the agency’s advocacy committees
comprised of individuals served by the
Board, community members and staff
to address concerns regarding services
provided individuals with developmental
disabilities.
For the last three years the Willoughby
Workshop Advocacy Committee
has hosted a chili cook-off as an
activity during March - Developmental
Disabilities Awareness Month. Proceeds
from the event are donated to various
charities. In 2010 the committee decided to donate their
proceeds to the Ronald MacDonald House in Cleveland
in order to support children and families faced with serious
health issues.
` The chili cook-off has been held annually at the
end of March. There were thirteen different chili recipes
that were tasted and judged by a panel of celebrity judges
including the Honorable Judge Larry Allen, Mayor Dave
Anderson, and Willoughby-Eastlake School Superintendent
Keith Miller, Ph.D.
The Consumer Advocacy Committee finds that the
cook-off is a tasty and fun venue in which to raise money
and awareness of the many worthwhile charitable organizations
in our community. They spend much time and
deliberation to decide the deserving charity to support.
The efforts of the advocacy committee reflect the importance
the Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood
places on individuals with disabilities to be valued and
contributing members of their chosen communities.
Creativity and Talent Highlighted during TriPoint Art Show
March 28th heralded a new collaboration between Lake Health and
Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood. Lake
Health hosted a Gallery Reception for individual artists served by the
Board whose works of art were on display at TriPoint Medical Center’s
Community Gallery from March 28 through June 15, 2010.

across from the artwork that highlight the ongoing partnerships with the two
organizations, including:

United Way Day of Caring project 2009
Employment Opportunities through Deepwood
Industry contracts.
Community Alliance for Law Enforcement
and Mental Health Services (CALMHS)
LCBDD/Deepwood is fortunate to have this
