Supplier of the
Year Award
At a spectacular banquet held at the
premier venue of the Sandton Sun
Hotel in Johannesburg, AESSEAL ®
were presented with the Mondi
Supplier of the year Award in the
Intermediate Category.
A total of three awards were given out amongst
thirteen finalists, namely in the development,
medium and large company categories. The
ceremony was well attended by members from
the Mondi Group and their supplier base.
Rob Adam from AESSEAL ® accepted the award
from Mr Thompson the Chairman and CEO of
Mondi South Africa. In his acceptance speech
Mr Adam placed strong emphasis on the fact
that teamwork went a long way to securing this
accolade.
One of the deciding factors in evaluation of the
finalist was the exceptional service carried out
at the Piet Retief Mill by AESSEAL’s Mr Ryan
Smith and the unprecedented cost savings
generated at the Merebank Mill through the
hard work of AESSEAL’s Mr Don van Rooyen
and his team.
Eastman Chemical Company in
Kingsport, TN has honored AESSEAL
Inc. with a Supplier Excellence award
for 2003.
AESSEAL Inc. was one of 15 suppliers receiving
this award from among roughly 2500 suppliers
of products and services to Eastman’s
Kingsport site. This is the third award
AESSEAL ® has received from Eastman’s
Supplier Excellence Program. The award
considerations are cost savings, safety, delivery
performance and product conformity.
Environmental performance, particularly with
regard to the saving and correct utilization of
water resources, has been a strong driving force
behind AESSEAL’s success in South Africa. The
need to carefully and aggressively manage this
resource has been identified by the Mondi
group and constitutes a component of their
environmental policy.
AESSEAL ® has successfully dovetailed into
Mondi’s water saving initiative by installing
equipment that eliminates water consumption
into stuffing box glands, saving billions of litres
of water over the past six years.
Supplier Excellence
Manager of the AESSEAL Kingsport site.
Rich received this award on behalf of his staff
saying “Being rewarded the 3rd ESEP award is
certainly a reflection of all the hard work and the
service we’ve provided to Eastman Chemical
Company throughout the 6 years we have been
on-site.” AESSEAL ® looks forward to
continuing to provide excellent service to all
Eastman sites in the future.
A luncheon was held for the AESSEAL ® staff in
Kingsport at the Eastman Lodge in June. The
award presentation was made to Rich Greatti by
Brian Miller, Department Superintendent of
Contract Services; Skip Batson, Procurement
Manager; and Parker Smith, Director of
Maintenance for the Kingsport Site. Rich Greatti
The Best Practice Company
The Fit for the Future campaign has come to an
end. The 2004 Award for the "Fit for the Future
Best Practice Company 2004 Yorkshire and The
Humber Region" was the last chance to engage
in this particular benchmarking exercise and
was only the second occasion that AESSEAL ®
had entered.
Above: David Owen (left) AESSEAL ® Commercial Director
receives the ‘Best Practice Company’ award from Andy
Scott of the CBI.
In 1999 the CBI (Confederation of
British Industry), in co-operation with
the DTI (The UK Government
Department of Trade and Industry)
embarked on a campaign to raise the
competitiveness of UK Industry
under the heading "Fit for the
Future".
The idea of the campaign was to make
companies "Fit for the Future" by getting them
to engage in a Business Excellence Model
which involved internal and external
benchmarking, geared towards improving
business performance through continuous
improvement initiatives.
In the inaugural year (1999) AESSEAL ® entered
a competition which was to ultimately lead to
finding the "Best Service Provider" and "The
Best Manufacturer" in Yorkshire and
Humberside, a UK region with a population of
approximately 5 million people.
AESSEAL ® was particularly pleased to receive
the award for "Best Manufacturer in Yorkshire
and Humberside" under the Fit for the Future
scheme in 1999.
More importantly, however, the benchmarking
exercise identified numerous weaknesses in the
organisation, or great opportunities for
improvement, which the Company set about
tackling.
The Awards Ceremony brought together the 4
short-listed companies, who presented their
use of best practice in the following areas –
leadership, people development, customer
service, supply change, process improvement,
innovation, corporate responsibility and
performance measurement.
The Awards Ceremony was held at the Royal
Armouries Museum in Leeds on Friday 23rd
April 2004 and followed a unique, live and
interactive format, where electronic voting on
each of the 8 categories actually took place
after presentations from the 4 short-listed
companies. The invited judging panel was
made up of 50 of their peers from Yorkshire and
Humber businesses and national membership
organisations.
Richard Cook – AESSEAL ® Production Director
commented “It was both a huge surprise and
delight that AESSEAL ® was voted the winner of
this prestigious award. It was especially
pleasing because there was only one award, i.e.
"The Best Practice Company", judging was
from our peer group and we have won on the
only two occasions we have entered, i.e. the
first and the last time the awards event was
held”.
Quote from Chris Rea, AESSEAL ® Managing
Director "Full credit must go to David Owen, our
Commercial Director, and the members of the
EFQM (European Foundation for Quality
Management) Team who have been responsible
for most of the continuous improvement
initiatives inside our business.
"This is a tribute to all of our workforce and
heightens the commitment of AESSEAL ® to
become a truly world-class organisation. We
still have a lot of work to do and many areas of
our business that we need to improve.
Continuous improvement is a journey, with no
final destination, nonetheless it is wonderful to
receive this accolade as a signpost that we are
heading in the right direction."
Excellence in Customer Relations
The ceremony was hosted by BBC chief news
correspondent Kate Adie OBE and attended by
approximately 300 representatives from the
business community. A small number of team
members from the Derby Branch represented
AESSEAL ® who were thrilled to beat fellow
finalists Ulogistics and Trade Appliances.
At the prestigious 2003 Derbyshire
Business Awards, AESSEAL plc took
first place in the category of
Excellence in Customer Relations.
This is the second occasion where AESSEAL ®
have taken first place in the awards organised
by Derbyshire Chamber & Business Link. At the
2002 ceremony, AESSEAL ® won the Excellence
in E-Business Award.
Derby Branch Manager, Jamie Thums
commented “Winning an award totally
attributed to customer relations is a testament
to our vision 'to give customers such
exceptional service that they need never
consider alternative sources of supply' and
confirms that customer service is our core
competence.
AESSEAL ® Derby Refurbishment
"Over the last year, the Component
Seal Division at AESSEAL Derby has
been transformed with a new look
and fully-automated Stores function.
Central to the development was the installation
of five Industrial Vertical Carousel Systems,
linked electronically to the Company's
Enterprise Resource System. The end result
provides a highly efficient, automated operation
which optimises space and available
technology, in particular managing the storage
locations for over 8000 product lines.
Exceptional Customer Service and Continuous
Improvement are two fundamental aspects
ingrained within the culture of AESSEAL ® .
Because AESSEAL ® maintain a large inventory,
coupled with an efficient best of class internal
operation, customers can continually rely on
AESSEAL ® for service and availability.
Housekeeping is a key element of AESSEAL's
Continuous Improvement programme. A host of
refurbishment activities have also been
undertaken, which includes a replacement roof
system as well as general refurbishment. All
told, the sum of the investments and resultant
appearance provides a world-class image,
acknowledged by employees and visitors
alike."
Customer Training ‘US Style’
Cargill’s Oil Seed Division has a
policy of sending their new
supervisors to four different threeday
training sessions in various
locations.
These employees have been on the job for less
than a year. What they need is solid pump
training. What they have received in the past
was a salesman who just wanted to sell more
pumps! What they get now is effective
processing equipment instruction provided by
AESSEAL ® pump experts Cathy Wilson and
Jerome Moore at the Gainesville, Georgia
facility.
For the past four years, AESSEAL ® has provided
detailed training that has received rave reviews.
Matt Hamburg, Cargill Reliability Engineer,
wrote a letter commending the trainers Jerome
Moore and Cathy Wilson for their superior
training “Jerome and Cathy bring many years of
field experience to our Young Engineers
Training meeting, giving them an opportunity to
learn ‘hands-on’ what they did not have the
opportunity to learn in the college classroom.”
Cathy and Jerome’s training format for Cargill
includes pump theory complete with classroom
problem-solving exercises, and hands-on
training with cut-away pumps. Demo rigs with
running water and a rotating seal cut-away are
provided for quick learning. Other topics of
interest are heat exchangers and steam traps.
Hamburg says that Cathy and Jerome’s classes
receive the highest possible approval rating and
that they will be asked back every year.
Joint Agreement
Pumps as well as some other key pump
providers.
AESSEAL ® will add value to the buying process
by reducing a customer’s supplier base and
making the procurement of pumps and pump
parts more efficient.
Above: John Pedder, UK Sales Manager (left) and Dave
Cockerill, Peterborough Branch Manager (Right). with
Senior Executives from Amarinth.
As modern companies are
continuously looking at ‘supplier
reduction’ programmes and
‘reduction in manpower’ they are
setting their suppliers with KPI (key
performance indicators) to add more
value to the supply. This in turn
assists with improving production
and reliability by providing cost
saving initiatives.
Realising this, AESSEAL ® has initiated the
Reliability in Alliance programme with Amarinth
AESSEAL ® has made executive agreements to
provide supply chain management to contract
customers, to resolve some of the dilemmas
when dealing direct with various OEM’s for
protracted pump supply issues.
With the Reliability in Alliance programme
AESSEAL ® now has the ability to provide
features that will dramatically improve the
performance of the pump, positively impact on
overall plant reliability and therefore reduce
production costs (MTBF).
Dave Cockerill comments “This (MTBF
improvement) is exactly what plant
management and directors are demanding from
their suppliers and equipment, and by working
with AESSEAL ® they get guaranteed
exceptional service with the highest degree of
workmanship, without compromise.
Excellence Award USA
report detailed how improvement in MTBF has
been confirmed by a reduction in procurement
expenditures.
Following the presentation, Cargill hosted the
luncheon in one of their executive conference
rooms. Valerie Conard and Bob Griffith
presented AESSEAL ® with a new award: The
Pillar of Excellence Award. Conard stated, “The
AESSEAL ® program is our premier purchasing
agreement and one by which we measure other
programs. The award captures our Cargill
procurement model; the three pillars we value:
high performance, customer focus, and
innovations.”
Tom Grove was proud to accept the award
again on behalf of a hard-working group of
individuals. Both the internal and external staff
have acted together as an outstanding team.
According to Grove “We have true professional
relationships that are centered on improvement.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve
the reliability of Cargill’s rotating equipment. The
implementation of our Water Management
System, coupled with strong performance
tracking, has been the key to the success of the
program.”
Cargill was represented by Division Purchasing
Manager, Valerie Conard; Senior Purchasing
Manager, Doug Jensen; Oil Seed Plant
Operations Manager, Jim Bell; Assistant Vice
President Facility Operations, Al Johnson;
Corporate Vice President, Jim Prokopanko; and
Bob Griffith, the Maintenance and Reliability
Team Leader
The results of the first five years were
summarized in the 2nd Quarter Executive
Report prepared for Cargill by AESSEAL ® . The
Developing the Designers of
the Future in Doncaster
In 2002 AESSEAL plc took the leading
role to provide Computer Aided
Design (CAD) software, with a market
value of £36 million, FREE to all
educational facilities in South
Yorkshire, UK.
AESSEAL’s mission is simple. It intends to help
develop the next generation of British designers
and raise the perception that students have of
Engineering by working closer with educational
establishments.
This initiative is called “Back To Grass Roots”
and, in conjunction with UGS, AESSEAL ® has
currently sponsored over 7000 seats of the
latest computer aided 3D design software in
more than 36 schools, colleges and universities
from Rotherham, Sheffield and Doncaster.
Ridgewood School, one of the schools in the
scheme from Doncaster, embraced the design
software and has just been rewarded for its
commitment to this project with a major award.
Fern Brown, a Year 7 student at Ridgewood has
just won the Regional ICSYS CAD/CAM
Challenge.
The ICSYS awards were created to promote
and recognise schools and pupils in the region
for their initiative and progression with the use
of CAD/CAM software. Fern’s winning design, a
complex shape of a trophy, was modelled using
the 3D Solid Edge CAD software supplied by
AESSEAL ® .
The “Back to Grass Roots” campaign was
inaugurated after AESSEAL plc learnt that
educational institutions had found it almost
impossible to finance and maintain the latest 3D
design software. So students and graduates
were leaving without essential skills which
would enable them to obtain a rewarding career
in design.
Alan Roddis, Engineering Director of AESSEAL
plc, said “It is widely recognised that the
campaign has been an overwhelming success.
The response from local school teachers has
been very refreshing. Ridgewood School is one
of over 36 participating schools achieving
fantastic results”.
Following the installation of AESSEAL plc
sponsored CAD seats and extensive training
from AESSEAL plc design personnel, one
student at Eckington School in Sheffield has
won the Regional CAD/CAM award in the 2003
“Young Engineer for Britain” competition. In
addition, two other Year 12 students from
Eckington won the “Designer of the Future”
competition which involved CAD work with the
software supplied by AESSEAL ® .
Steve Manley, Ridgewood’s Design and
Technology Teacher, has driven the use of the
CAD software at Ridgewood School. Steve said
“Pupils have been enthused by the generation
of 3D CAD models of their work. It has also
been nice for them to see the link with industry
through AESSEAL plc and to experience how
design software is used in the creation of their
mechanical seals. We believe the use of Solid
Edge and guidance from AESSEAL ® has played
a major part in our success in these awards”
Mark Eales, Executive Director of Education
and Culture, who was present at the awards
said “It is wonderful to see these excellent
pieces of work produced by Doncaster’s young
women. They are an inspiration! Education and
Technology are keystones of Doncaster’s
future.”
AESSEAL Help Develop
Language Skills in Schools
AESSEAL plc has become involved in
a pilot scheme to develop the next
generation of language specialists in
schools.
With 48 branches and subsidiaries in 26
countries and sales to 65 countries, AESSEAL ®
has always needed a team of linguists who can
speak to their customers in their own language.
The current team of linguists can speak 10
languages between them.
AESSEAL ® has now decided to back a local
scheme called VIPS (Vocational International
Project Sheffield), in conjunction with the
Sheffield Local Education Authority and
Regional Language Network for Yorkshire and
the Humber, which is designed to teach school
children the benefits of choosing languages in
their careers.
Chris Rea, Group Managing Director of
AESSEAL ® (shown centre right), who speaks
French and German, has seen first-hand the
benefits of speaking to a customer in their own
language. He said “We as a business can only
survive by providing excellent customer service.
If we cannot communicate to our customers in
their own language then we are not providing
this basic service. Our involvement in this
initiative is designed to help students see how
rewarding a career in languages can be. It will
clearly demonstrate to them that languages are
an essential part of our business.”
VIPS currently involves over 150 pupils at 7
different schools in the Sheffield area. In
September 2004 the scheme will be further
extended to 15 schools and will benefit more
than 500 children.
strong relationships with customers worldwide.
They are vital to our future success as a
business, which is why we are committed to the
VIPS scheme.”
The project was developed in response to the
government announcement of plans for modern
foreign languages to no longer be a statutory
requirement for pupils aged 14-16 from
September 2004. This highlighted the need for
schools to make use of vocational language
courses and offer more creative options to
attract interest from the children. The success
of the VIPS pilot is being closely monitored by
the rest of the UK as a new method of learning
languages and to possibly attract those children
who might never have studied them.
Project Business Co-ordinator Anouck
Guinchard says “The idea is to put a business
slant on the learning. The style of language
being taught has been focused on the demands
of the business community, and learning more
business phrases instead of more traditional
vocabulary such as tourist phrases.”
Geoff Swinn of Sheffield Local Education
Authority has a great deal of pride in the project.
He says "VIPS is making a significant
contribution to meeting the changing needs of
our young people. The growth of links between
schools and business is beneficial to both sides
and gives real meaning to the students'
languages learning, especially where it
embraces extensive use of ICT, which can also
be accredited."
AESSEAL ® has invited local school children to
visit their Global Technology Centre facilities to
see how languages are used and actually get
involved with administering language based
tasks. AESSEAL ® employees will also visit
school language lessons and careers events to
promote this cause.
Commercial Administrator and Student Mentor
at AESSEAL ® , Jo Allen commented “As a
graduate linguist I can offer the students a
practical insight into why and how we use
languages in the workplace. As a company we
truly value the importance of languages and
understanding different cultures to help build
AESSEAL ® Saudi Arabia
AESSEAL ® is pleased to announce
the formation of Alaa AESSEAL with
its joint venture partners AFI.
AFI have been an AESSEAL ® distributor
covering Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and
Bahrain since 1999. In that time AESSEAL plc
and AFI have formed a strong working
relationship that has culminated in this new
venture.
12
The area has many industrial facilities,
especially in AESSEAL’s target market,
Petrochemical and Refineries.
As AESSEAL ® has an innovative API specific
range of CAPI 610 & 682 mechanical seals it
makes sense to have a direct presence in one of
the worlds largest oil exporting countries.
The new venture will allow AESSEAL ® to take a
more focussed approach to expansion in this
area which will lead to several new jobs.
look forward to seeing the benefits that this
partnership will bring.”

Chris Rea - Entrepreneur of the Year
firm which was a distributor of mechanical
seals, in 1979. Seals are used in pumps and
other rotating equipment to stop harmful liquids
and gasses leaking into the environment. In
1981, however, Chris had the distributorship
taken away from him and he was left with
customers but no product to sell.
Chris said “It was a sink or swim situation. I was
up against huge multinational companies and
didn’t even have a product to sell.” The
business formed as a result, called AES
Engineering Limited, spent a year in intensive
care and set about designing and
manufacturing it’s own range of mechanical
seals.
The company survived this setback to become
the only international entrant into the
mechanical seal market in the last 50 years.
New products were developed, two of which
have been recognised with a Queen’s Award for
Innovation, and new markets were aggressively
entered.
Chris won Entrepreneur of the Year for Business
Products and Services in the Northern Regional
Finals in the accountancy firm’s annual awards
which cover the globe and eventually culminate
in the World Entrepreneur Awards in Monte
Carlo next year. This is the second time that he
has won the award and is one of only a handful
of people to do so.
Chris’ entrepreneurial flair was demonstrated
when he decided to buy a small engineering
When Chris won his first Entrepreneur of the
Year award in 2001 the company had already
grown to become a multinational business with
sales in excess of £30M. Since then the
company has continued to grow and sales this
year will be £46M with over 700 employees in
48 branches and subsidiaries in 26 countries.
The company now trades as AESSEAL plc and
exports 75% of its products to a total of 65
countries.
Commenting on the awards which are
recognised as the ‘Business Oscars’ Chris said
“Winning the Entrepreneur of the Year award is
an endorsement from my peers that my vision
of trying to build a big and beautiful business,
that has a chance of being the number one seal
supplier in the world by 2029, might just be
more than a dream”.
Sealing Africa!!
AESSEAL Pty in South Africa has
achieved huge success in growing its
share of the South African market in
the last 6 years.
Although there is stiff local competition,
AESSEAL ® have decided that it is now time to
start attacking a new market, which until
recently has received little attention.
East Africa, under the supervision of Rob Adam,
and in conjunction with AESSEAL’s local
distributor in Kenya, Texchem, has grown to
become a very stable part of AESSEAL Pty’s
export business.
A recent decision was made to structure a more
formal export division, and a team of people
were put together to oversee this exercise. Max
Mathye, Renau Lwamba, Jackie Holdrick,
Charles Papworth and Keith Bender can be
seen here putting their heads together to come
up with export procedures and initiatives.
The African market has huge potential for
AESSEAL’s packing business, as well as for
slurry pump conversions. Countries such as
Zambia, which has a huge copper mining
industry, offer opportunities for these type of
products in every plant, whilst in the rest of the
continent there are many other industries that
need seals.
Rob Adam has recently, in conjunction with
AESSEAL‘s distributor, ORBIT Pumps in
Botswana, secured a £100,000 (E150,000 /
$180,000) order for slurry pump conversions in
the Debswana diamante mines. These
conversions ranged from 95mm double seals
on Warman 150PCH pumps to 7.000” double
seals on G Frame Warman pumps.
14
The commissioning of these installations is
ongoing at the moment, although the seals that
have been commissioned already have been
running leak free for some time.

AESSEAL (Pty) Ltd is looking forward to the
next challenge in this area, which should help it
in its mission to become the number one
mechanical seal company in South Africa!
The total value of the contract to AESSEAL ® is
approximately £110,000 (Ε165,000 / $198,000)
per annum.
Rob Waites comments “These plants are
situated in the heart of the petrochemical
industry where other major industrial plants are
situated. This geographical area has been a
stronghold for the local competitors for many
years, and this partnership should help
AESSEAL ® to prove to this industry that it is
capable of supporting their requirements far
better than any other seal supplier in the world.
Distributor Opens New Facility
AESSEAL (Pty) Ltd South Africa’s top
distributor, Easycoat, has recently
moved into new premises in Richards
Bay in Northern Kwazulu Natal.
Sakkie de Villiers, owner of Easycoat, has been
part of the AESSEAL ® flagship in South Africa
since AESSEAL ® was still represented by
National Trading Company, and decided to
venture forward on his own around the same
time the South African operation was started in
Midrand Johannesburg.
Changing South Africa
AESSEAL (Pty) Ltd in South Africa
has recently embarked on one of its
greatest challenges yet.
The last decade has seen many changes in
South Africa as its economy and business
entities, big or small, are facing new obstacles
and challenges every day.
In South Africa probably the biggest challenge
Photo: Mokadi Max Mathye seen at the new premises of
EASY COAT in Richards Bay.
will be that of the Broad Based Black Economic
Empowerment program.
B.E.E. is the new buzzword in the South African
market and, regardless of which industry you
serve, it is becoming a necessity.
This reality has made a lot of people nervous,
and whilst other companies are looking for
alternative options, for example front
companies, AESSEAL ® South Africa has fully
embraced this initiative. It is implementing a
proper BEE strategy, designed to expand the
entrepreneurial and managerial classes and
help create a more representative middle class.
In April 2004 Max Mathye was appointed as
Director Designate in the South African
operation. Max previously worked with pump
manufacturer Rapid Allweiler, where he held the
position of Procurement and Logistics Director.
Max also brings with him 17 years of experience
and contacts in the local pump industry which
will be ideal for his role in AESSEAL Pty.
New MagTecta TM Bearing Protection
18
The MagTecta seal line is the first
double face mechanical cartridge
seal for bearing isolation. The
MagTecta-II TM has been developed
specifically for difficult API sealing
applications as well as faster RPM
applications.
For more than 100 years, engineers have been
searching for a means to improve rotating
equipment life by isolating the bearings to seal
in lubricants and seal out contaminants. Lip
seals and labyrinth seals have been used widely
for this purpose, but both seals suffer from
inherent sealing problems. The MagTecta TM
corrects these shortcomings, using
modern mechanical seal
technology.
What is the
solution to sealing
the oil in and the
water out A true,
hermetic seal is
needed to
accomplish this.
According to one
expert “Magnetic
seals are the only
practical hermetic
bearing-housing
closure.” (Published by
Heinz Bloch, P.E. October,
2001).
The MagTecta TM bearing isolator utilizes modern
mechanical seal technology, including
Antimony-Carbon against Tungsten-Carbide
seal faces. The seal is energized by magnets,
instead of springs, to minimize space. The
MagTecta TM fits into the same space that was
formerly occupied by a lip seal or laby seal, and
provides total, hermetic bearing isolation. The
MagTecta TM does not rub against the shaft, so
no shaft fretting damage results. Further, the
MagTecta TM seals using proper mechanical seal
faces, so equipment “breathing” is not allowed
and wash-water cannot pass through. The
MagTecta TM works equally well in horizontal or
vertical applications. In short, all of the
shortcomings of lip seals and laby seals are
overcome with the MagTecta TM .
The price for the MagTecta TM isolator is
approximately £70 (E105 / $126) per inch of
shaft diameter. This is about the same as the
cost of a laby seal. A similar-sized lip seal could
cost as little as $10, but when the total cost of
shaft damage and lost production are included,
the MagTecta TM is actually much less expensive
to operate than a lip seal. AESSEAL ® offers the
use of an ROI program which can input a
facility’s actual costs for labor, repairs, etc, and
graph the payback period for converting to a
MagTecta TM from a lip or laby seal. The ROI is
often as short as a few months.
Petroleum-related pumping applications are
often considered to be some of the most
difficult problems to solve. API 610, 9th edition
(Jan., 2003) states that “Bearing housings shall
be equipped with replaceable labyrinth-type or
magnetic-type end seals and deflectors where
the shaft passes through the housing. Lip-type
seals shall not be used. “Reliability Engineers
at refineries and offshore production
platforms are therefore searching for a
bearing isolator to replace the
ubiquitous lip seal. For this
reason, AESSEAL ®
developed the MagTecta-
II, which has been
certified to European ATEX
(Atmosphere Explosibles)
standards, and which is
compatible with the above
API guidelines. The
MagTecta-II TM replaces the
outboard Carbon face of the
MagTecta TM with bronze-filled Teflon,
thereby allowing greater shaft
velocities without creating more heat.
Bruce McCartney, President of ProSeal Inc., has
been installing MagTecta TM isolators for over
one year. "ProSeal's pump-repair division has
retrofitted MagTecta TM isolators on about 25
pump repairs” explained Bruce “and we have
observed a nearly complete elimination of water
ingress into the bearing housings on the pumps
fitted with MagTectas. On one application, a
rectifier-roll bearing housing was costing a
paper mill over £3,000 (E4,500 / $5,400) every
3-4 months to repair damage to the shaft and
bearings caused by water leaking past the lip
seals. The roll was rebuilt with MagTectas, and
there has been zero measurable water entry into
the bearings even after 4 months of run time."
The new MagTecta TM bearing isolator from
AESSEAL ® is truly a revolutionary new concept
in sealing bearing chambers, and can
considerably increase the MTBF (Mean Time
Between Failures) for all types of rotating
equipment.

sales will be close to £1 million (E1.5 / 1.8
million) in 2005.
The team at Simac have been great supporters
of AESSEAL ® from their earliest days as a
distributor. Their sales staff and key customers
have been frequent visitors to AESSEAL ® HQ in
Rotherham, UK. Following the establishment
of AESSEAL Finland, these customer ties will
strengthen even more.
Helping AESSEAL ® to accelerate development
in this market sector will be Pertti Saukko and
Miikka Roivainen, whilst Ari Kortelainen, Jouni
Limatainen and Ari Flinkman will be looking
after seal repairs and the administration side of
the business.
Olavi Roivainen, the current MD of Simac Oy, is
taking a well earned retirement and AESSEAL ®
wishes him all the best for the future, although
he will continue to take an active interest in the
progress of his ‘baby’ under the stewardship of
AESSEAL ® .
AESSEAL ® Export Manager, Horst Yarrow is
quoted as being delighted at having been
involved with this project from the very first
phone call which resulted in Simac being
appointed as an AESSEAL ® distributor, to
concluding the deal to bring Simac into the
AESSEAL ® family under the guise AESSEAL
Finland Oy.
Horst, who will become Managing Director of
AESSEAL Finland Oy said, “This is where the
work really starts and I am confident that the
team will pull together to demonstrate that
whilst a certain phone company continues
connecting people, AESSEAL Finland Oy will be
connecting with customers”.
