<strong>Careers</strong> service packages - continued<br />

<strong>Careers</strong> service package for special<br />

schools<br />

The service can be delivered over 36 weeks<br />

of <strong>the</strong> year, or 42 weeks, to allow for follow-up<br />

work with vulnerable students during school<br />

holidays. A minimum of half a day per week<br />

over 36 weeks is recommended.<br />

We offer:<br />

l guidance <strong>and</strong> support to young people<br />

identified by <strong>the</strong> school<br />

l quality one-to-one time with individual<br />

students, getting to know <strong>the</strong>m <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir needs to support <strong>the</strong>m through <strong>the</strong><br />

transition process<br />

l contact with parents (home visits if required)<br />

to provide information <strong>and</strong> assist smooth<br />

transitions<br />

l visits with <strong>the</strong> young person to opportunity<br />

providers’ <strong>and</strong> taster days<br />

l one-to-one support on personal<br />

development issues<br />

l curriculum inputs on personal, social <strong>and</strong><br />

health education, transition <strong>and</strong> CEIAG<br />

programmes<br />

l o<strong>the</strong>r services as negotiated.<br />

The school:<br />

l identifies <strong>the</strong> young people<br />

l shares appropriate pre-interview information<br />

with <strong>the</strong> careers adviser.<br />

The County Council will continue to undertake<br />

statutory S139a assessments supporting<br />

<strong>Hampshire</strong> funded students with statements of<br />

special educational needs in special schools on<br />

an uncharged basis, as appropriate.<br />

Personal development package<br />

The service is delivered over 42 weeks of <strong>the</strong><br />

year to allow for follow-up work with vulnerable<br />

students during school holidays. A minimum of<br />

half a day per week is recommended.<br />

We offer:<br />

l targeted support to students referred by <strong>the</strong><br />

school/college<br />

l five one-to-one appointments per day<br />

l in-depth one-to-one work on issues such as:<br />

– bereavement, anger management, stress,<br />

self-esteem, bullying, emotional health,<br />

self-harm, teenage pregnancy, substance<br />

misuse, sex <strong>and</strong> relationships, family<br />

relationships, team work skills, transition,<br />

housing, benefits, <strong>and</strong> finance<br />

– small group work for six to eight young<br />

people can be delivered on similar <strong>the</strong>mes<br />

– for one-to-one work, a model of six<br />

sessions <strong>and</strong> review of involvement is<br />

proposed<br />

– each intervention involves a one-to-one<br />

interview (or small group session), an<br />

action plan <strong>and</strong> follow-up work, including<br />

referral to specialist services as required<br />

– a daily report about <strong>the</strong> work undertaken is<br />

provided to <strong>the</strong> school/college, subject to<br />

agreement with <strong>the</strong> young person<br />

– delivery of personal, social <strong>and</strong> health<br />

education sessions as requested, including<br />

drugs, alcohol <strong>and</strong> substance misuse, sex<br />

<strong>and</strong> relationships, stress management, <strong>and</strong><br />

managing finances <strong>and</strong> budgeting.<br />

The school/college:<br />

l identifies <strong>the</strong> young people <strong>and</strong> undertakes<br />

<strong>the</strong> administration involved in attending<br />

interviews<br />

l shares appropriate pre-interview information<br />

with <strong>the</strong> adviser.<br />
