REACH US and CATCH Training<br />

The <strong>Absentee</strong> <strong>Shawnee</strong> <strong>Tribe</strong> Community Health and<br />

Preventon Programs, Physical Actvity staf provided<br />

training on the Coordinated Approach to Child Health<br />

(CATCH) on September 24 th with the AST Building Blocks<br />

staf. CATCH is an evidence-based, coordinated school<br />

healthprogram designed to promote physical actvity,<br />

healthy food choices, and to prevent tobacco use.<br />

The FCLC has two (2) member positions<br />

open and would like for you to join in<br />

making a difference in bringing smiles<br />

to tribal foster children.<br />

The program includes a fun and easy to use toolkit that<br />

allows improvement in the health of students and<br />

teaches lifelong health behaviors. It is a program that<br />

brings together school, families, and communites to<br />

teach children how to be healthy for life.<br />

Why<br />

• Physical Actvity and healthy eatng beneft all<br />

people by improving the quality of their lives.<br />

• <strong>Oklahoma</strong> ranks 50 th in fruit and vegetable<br />

consumpton in the United State that rates last<br />

place. 3<br />

• 32% of <strong>Oklahoma</strong>ns are obese. 3<br />

• By teaching children that eatng healthy and<br />

being physically actve every day can be fun, the<br />

CATCH Program has proven evidence that<br />

establishing healthy habits in childhood can<br />

promote behavior changes that last a lifetme. 1<br />

• CATCH is the most cost-efectve program that is<br />

a youth-focused initatve to reduce obesity. 4<br />
