Fırtına tanrısı ile Arinna’nın Güneş tanrıçasına adanmış olan
Büyük tapınak bulunur. Yazılı kaynaklara göre Hitit tapınakları,
yalnız tanrıların evleri değil aynı zamanda kendi toprak ve işlikleri
olan ve bunları kendi personeliyle işletilen kurumlardı.
Yukarı şehir’de tapınaklar yanında, kraliyet saraylarının
bulunduğu Büyükkale’nin önünde, resmi işlere ayrılmış, bazı
anıtsal yapılar vardır. Başkentte “Hiyeroglifli Oda” adı verilen
mekanda Hitit Büyük Kralı II.Şuppiluliuma’ nın yaptığı işleri
anlatan yazıt, türünün korunarak günümüze ulaşmış en iyi
örneğidir.
now. The Great temple dedicated to the Storm God and Sun God
of Arinna, which are the two greatest gods of the country, are in
Aşağı Şehir. According to the written sources, the Hittite temples
were not only the houses of gods but also foundations having
their own lands and workshops run by their own staff.
Besides from the temples, there are some monumental
structures designated to official works in front of Büyük Kale,
where kingdom palaces are located, in Yukarı Şehir. The epigraph
in the “Epigraph Room” in the Hattusa, which tells about the
achievements of Suppiliuma II., the Great King of the Hittite
Empire, is the best protected sample of its type.
