Arrow Impress At 2009
AKA National Titles
Arrow Racing Kart drivers enjoyed phenomenal success at the 47 th National
Sprint Kart Championships held at Sun City Raceway during the Easter
weekend. Arrow drivers claimed half of all titles on offer and a number of
pleasing podium finishes were recorded by some very talented drivers.
The running of the 47 th National Sprint Kart Championships saw Australia’s premier
racing Kart continue the success that has become a staple of the Arrow brand for
many years. Arrow Racing Karts claimed the Manufacturers Cup with a dominant
showing, which produced more than double the amount of National titles achieved
by any other brand at the event, highlighted by the Clubman double – winning both
the Light and Heavy categories. Longtime Arrow driver Matthew Wall joins fellow
Arrow comrades David Sera and Kel Treseder as the only drivers to have won a
Clubman, Leopard and Rotax National Championship. Coincidently all three drivers
left Townsville with another National Championship to add to their impressive
collections, after steering an Arrow Racing Kart first across the line in their respective
classes.

A special congratulation must also go to Matt Wall for becoming the first driver to
claim a National Championship in every major category of the sport, after seeing off
no less than 10 current or former National Champions on his way to the Clubman
Heavy Title. Wall has the rare distinction of claiming Australian titles in Clubman,
Rotax, Leopard, Senior National, Formula 100 and Formula Australia categories. It
was very nearly another Arrow 1-2 as Bart Price held second position for most of the
Final until losing a plug lead, which dropped the former National Champion back to
12 th place. Wall was however joined in the Final top 10 by fellow Arrow drivers Lee
Mitchener, Dale Verrall and Jason Varley.
The ever consistent David Sera added another National Title to his growing collection
after a hard fought win in the Clubman Light class. Sera battled throughout the Final
with fellow Arrow driver Ben Stewart and the pair were close enough to make
contact on the final corner of the race, however it was the experience of Sera that
stood atop the Final podium, a pleasing 1-2 for Arrow Racing Karts. Steven Scoble
made the long journey from Western Australia to ensure Arrow was well represented
in the top 10 with a 6 th placed finish respectively. It was the second National Title
awarded to Sera over the weekend as the Arrow driver was finally recognised for his
winning performance in the Leopard Light class during the 2007 National
Championships held at Eastern Creek.

Kel Treseder was aboard the Arrow X1 for the Leopard Heavy Final and the
combination proved to be an unstoppable force as the talented driver lead the field
to the chequered flag, cementing his place within Australian Karting’s elite. Treseder
was joined in the Final top 10 by fellow Arrow drivers Daniel Stein and Mike Powe in
what has become a highly successful class for the Arrow X1. David Sera ensured
Arrow would be represented on the podium of the Leopard Light class after a very
close battle between a deeply talented field in the Final, Queensland Arrow X1 driver
Kyle Ensbey proved his ability with a top 10 finish respectively.
In what was arguably the closest run Final the championships have seen, fast
finishing Arrow driver Blake Sciberras took the Senior National Light Title by 0.009 of
a second. Sciberras steered his Kart to the front of the pack on the last lap and
ensured his Arrow XE-28 would not be beaten, with an impressive showing holding
off Queenslander Scott Sorensen and fellow Arrow driver and defending National
Champion Matthew Waters who finished 3 rd respectively. Talented Arrow drivers
Tyler Cramer, Dale Beaton, Shannon Price and Dominic Lostitch all recorded
impressive top 10 finishes in the Final.
Arrow Racing Karts dominated the Junior National Heavy class throughout the event
with talented young drivers Darcey Kondopirakis and Macauley Jones leading the
way. Kondopirakis was amongst the frontrunners from the outset and capatlised on
his blistering form to earn himself the 2009 Junior National Heavy National
Championship Title after a strong performance in the Final. He was closely followed
home by fellow Arrow pilot Jones who claimed third place after an impressive driving
display. The two were joined in the top 10 by a number of Arrow drivers including
Joseph Mawson, Chris Farkas, Chelsea Holman, Jarrod Egan and William Sculpher.
Controversy surrounded the Senior National Heavy Final when Marshall Watson and
Arrow XE-28 driver Corey Lean ended up off track on the final lap whilst battling for
the Championship. As it stands the result is under review and the official standings
will be announce in the coming days. Lean was the second Kart across the line
during the Final in what would be a deserving podium finish, after the Arrow driver
led the entire Final. Arrow drivers Nathan Sinclair, Shannon Price, Dominic Lostitch
and Matthew Waters were all amongst the first 10 drivers to meet the chequered
flag.
