Page 26 Kyalami July 11th 2009 UNBIASED, PERSONALLY OPINIATED TEXT BY HARRY LOMBARD Photo by Michelle After all the hassles that I‘d had during the year, I was carefully optimistic of finishing a race for a change. The gearbox had been fixed and was fitted along with the engine on the week-end before the race. When checking on the sundries, I found that the throttle was not returning properly and found one of the throttle cross bar bolts loose. I had also reset the rear suspension again for hopefully better cornering and had cut some foam out of the seat cushion to sit a bit lower. I could only work from about 5 in the afternoon until it got dark before it got so cold that I had to sleep next to my own wife at night .On the week-ends was the only other times although I had to work until 11 o‘clock on both days the week-end before the race. On top of that I only have yours truly and the medem to do the job. The medem she make the tea, but also helps to lift the engine onto the jack and position when installing. On race day we set off not long after 5 before sparrow‘s and stood outside the gate until 6 as usual. The pit area for the Touring cars was a bit full when we pitched and we moved lower down towards the Marque car/ Pre-66 area.
