Having said this I must also say that the collective opinion has been that we leave the points as they are. Not unanimous, but close. Kevin Taylor took the honours followed by Johan Botha in another Capri - that immaculate yellow Perana. Fritz was 3 rd in the Mini Marcos with a charging Howard Nel 6 seconds adrift. I was next ahead of Keith in the D-Type, Ronel, Buck Madden then Jacob Devilliers Hoffman (new guy) in that superb Johan Botha prepared Ford Escort. Johan v.d. Merwe was quietly next followed by Michelle who must have had a problem. Simon Taylor broke a clutch in the Lancia and Deon Hatting broke a side-shaft – AGAIN. Lindsay and Peter MacIldowie were disqualified as were the other Johan Botha in the Martini Porsche, Rey Cornelissen, Colin Kean in the Merc. and Willie Grobler had a problem of some kind. In race 2 Johan Botha in the Porsche just made sure he didn‘t break out – by .2 of a second, and he finished first followed by Isi in the Cripple S, Peter MacIldowie, Keith van Heerden, Ronel, Johan in the Mini and Johan Botha in the Capri. Howard was next followed by Giuseppe, Fritz, Rey, Colin Kean, myself and Michelle. Buck and Jacob broke out. Racing with the Alfa guys is not a problem we all seem to agree. I think they race less often than we do but their self -preservation instinct is fairly well developed. I did notice however that there are no Spiders racing. This means that they are not used to cars lower than their own waistline. On two occasions I was going past one side when they noticed another Alfa on the other side and I was pushed off into the mealies! On the subject of 43 cars starting a handicap race Even at Kyalami – too many. The jam from the second last lap on is just too chaotic. I‘d say there were 10 of us coming through the new corner together (which everyone seems to love – in spite of it‘s being described by a guy who really should know, as the most dangerous in the country!) when an Alfa spun in front of me. I chose mealies on the right – should have gone left, and was passed by all the guys I‘d just passed. But hey – ―This is not a contact sport‖ and, somehow, we managed to preserve the image. Overall it was a wonderful day for Isi who was first, with Johan Botha in the Capri Perana second and Kevin Taylor third. Keith van Heerden, Howard, Ronel, Fritz followed with Johan in the Mini ahead of myself, Johan Botha (Porsche) Peter, Michelle, Buck, Jacob, and Giuseppe next. Rey of course got 0 for heat 1 and Simon 0 for heat 2 followed by Colin Kean, Lindsay and Willie. Thanks for all the input from you guys (and girls). I look forward to seeing you all at Midvaal.
