Sport Report
Firstly, I would like to apologise to the students and families who had responded to the Sport Presentation Night invitations.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the night due to the low number of responses. The Presentation of Awards, Colours and
Premiership Pennants will be done at Lunchtime Events today and on Monday for Term 3 Sport. The disappointing aspect of
this was that the Sport Captains had done a tremendous amount of work preparing for the night. Hopefully we will see great
support for future events so that we can give our students the recognition they deserve.
Last Friday night was a fantastic event at Waverley Basketball Stadium which truly displayed the spirit at Whitefriars. Our Year
10 team crowned themselves as Victorian Champions in an early game with a super performance over Box Hill Secondary
College. The crowd started to flow in for the evening game against Caulfield Grammar. Although we lost the game we certainly
impressed everyone there with our great support from students, staff and parents. The officials and opposition made comment
on how our crowd provided a great atmosphere. My thanks to Mr Brad Bird and Mr Duncan Berg, who did a great job getting
the squads so well prepared. I would also like to thank our players who are so committed to keeping Whitefriars at the top of
Basketball in Victoria. In particular, my thanks to our Basketball Captain, Liam Gibcus. His leadership was amazing.
Our first venture into Victorian Schools Cup Volleyball was also successful with the team winning 4 out of the 6 matches over
the weekend to finish in fifth place. Mr Heath McGregor and our Captain, Luke Renehan, have certainly set a platform for our
future stars to build on to give our players every chance to improve.
This week we appointed our new Sport Captains for 2009. These boys participated in the ACC Leadership Workshop on
Wednesday and some of them have already begun their tasks for next year by getting around to some Junior squads. Our
Sport leaders for 2009 are listed below.
All of the Year 7-10 seasons are underway with a positive start across the board.
