Last Friday, on World Teachers’ Day, the Parent Association surprised staff by decorating the staffroom and
providing delicious cupcakes for morning tea. The teachers were most grateful for this surprise and the kind
words they left which read:
“The Parents’ Association, on behalf of all the families of Sacred Heart Primary School, want to wish you all a
very special World Teachers’ Day.
In celebration of the wonderful work that you do, enjoy the morning tea we have provided and know that we
appreciate the work that you do with our children. Thanks for looking after them and caring for them each and
every day. Have a wonderful day. They also left the reflection “Why God Made Teachers”
The teachers in our school are dedicated to providing a happy and challenging learning environment for the
students and they work very hard as a team to ensure this happens .The recognition shown by the parents was
really appreciated by the staff.

I thank everyone for your patience during the completion of this
project. It is taking a lot longer than I had anticipated - seems to go
with building projects!! There has been a hold up with the roofing. I
have requested that we are able to use the walkway until they supply
the roofing. Please watch the signs and barricades to alert you as to
when the walkway can be used. Hopefully this will be completed
within the next three weeks.
Parent/Teacher/Student Meetings
Parent / teacher /student meetings were well attended and the
teachers thank the parents and children for their discussion and
feedback.
ASSESSMENT & REPORTING FOLDERS
There are still some Assessment & Reporting folders that have
not been returned from last term; please send them back as soon
as possible to allow for the new pieces of work to be included in
them in readiness to be sent home on December 2 nd They will need
to be returned by December 7 th so pieces needing to be retained by
the school for student Cumulative Record File can be organized
before it is sent to the class for the following year with the student
on the Orientation morning on Monday December 12 th .

UNIFORMS
Please remember that children wear sport uniform only on the days that are designated for Phys. Ed or sport
for that particular class. Other days are to be the school uniform. I would remind you that it is now summer
uniform and the bomber jacket is not part of the Term 1 or Term 4 uniform. This garment goes over the
windcheater / tracksuit top as an outer garment for colder weather.
PLEASE MARK ALL BELONGINGS INCLUDING LUNCHBOXES AND DRINK BOTTLES CLEARLY. There
are many un-named articles (including non school jackets)

School Development Plan/ Review Process
We have commenced work collecting data and commenced the comparison of student results, survey results and
other records for the last four years
We have had a team of staff from the Regional CEO office leading our work so far. We have set aside late
staff meetings this term to continue the task in earnest. We need to have our reports completed by the end of
Term 1 next year
End of Year Dates
As we have only had 3 school closure days this year we will take our 4 th day in the last week of school on
Tuesday 20th December as a whole staff working day to write up as much as we have collected and verified
before the end of the year so we do not lose all the efforts that will be put in over the term on the School
Development Process.
Children will finish on the Monday 19 th December and the will staff finish on the 21 st December.
These dates have been approved by Father John and the School Education Board
STUDENTS RETURNING IN 2012
If you have confirmed a place for your child for 2012 and your circumstances change and your child will not
be attending Sacred Heart in 2012, could you please inform Mrs Ryan or the office immediately
We have many on the waiting list and need to finalise their positions.

Being a parent is
easy,……when you have
easy children.
If you have children who are fast learners, talented at any activity they put their minds to and able to make
friends easily then you can thank your lucky stars that fate dealt you a kind hand. Life tends to contrive against
such good fortune so most parents are blessed with a mixed bag.
The parents who have the most difficulty are those with children who just don’t seem to fit in at preschool or
school. Despite adult efforts to coax and urge them to do their best some children just don’t fit into regular
childcare or educational settings.
If you have a child who seems to be like the proverbial square peg in a round hole then understanding,
persistence and patience are your best parenting tools.
Understand your child and the difficulty that he or she may be facing fitting into his social and learning
environments. See the world from his or her point of view and continue to give support, encouragement and
love.
Persist in helping your child find his or her strength, area of interest or favoured learning style.
Often such children act in ways that make their parents throw their hands up in despair and give up. Don’t give
in.
Be patient. All children excel when they are placed in their right environment – it can just take time for some
children to find the environment that suits them.
It is remarkable how many current public achievers and entrepreneurs did not fit into traditional educational
environments when they were young. No doubt, there are many parents who are relieved that the children who
once gave them so much worry have become some of this country’s leaders in business, the arts and sporting
life.
Vitamins for parents: Four ways to encourage your children every day:
1. Tell them that you love them
2. Point out at least one thing they
do well or have shown
improvement in
3. Ask for your child’s opinion
about matters big and small
4. Stick a positive message for your child to find - in
his bag, lunch box, under his pillow
Bright Idea: Be your child’s best coach, not his greatest critic
Smart coaches realise that mistakes are part of learning. They point out strengths, before
weaknesses, when they give feedback.
The rule of thumb when working with children is to point out three positives for every one negative
whether you are helping them learn a skill, improve their behaviour or just getting them to clean up
their rooms.
Encouragement combined with practice will ensure your child will improve in any area of life.

The Victorian School of Languages is a government school teaching over 40 languages in more than 30 locations.

2011 Father/Son Camp
Sacred Heart Primary School
It is with pleasure that we invite you to join us on the 2011 Father/Son camp for the
Sacred Heart Primary School. The camp is being organised by the Parents
Association.
The camp is to be held at the YMCA run Camp Manyung on the picturesque
Mornington Peninsula. The camp will be held over the weekend of 3rd/4th
December 2011. The fun will commence with lunch at approx. 12:30pm on the
Saturday and conclude mid afternoon on the Sunday.
The camp is being attended by Fathers and Sons from all year levels at the school
and probably by a number of your son’s mates. The objective of the camp is to
strengthen our bonds with both our sons and the school community, within an
atmosphere of great fun and games. It will be a packed itinerary.
The YMCA specializes in delivering challenging outdoor adventure experiences
designed to meet the needs of each group. All programs are instructed by qualified
and experienced YMCA program staff, providing a safe and supportive environment.
Possible activities include: Giant Swing 18m high Vertical Challenge High
Ropes Challenge Flying Fox Low Ropes Course Tree Climbing

The camp will be a great opportunity both to mix with fathers/sons that you know as
well as meet new ones. We encourage you to recruit other father/sons to attend.
People who attended last year’s camp will attest to the great spirit of the occasion.
The cost of the camp is $112 per person. This includes accommodation, all meals,
and participation in activities.
The School Principal Maree Ryan would like all families to know that whilst the
school fully supports and encourages the family camp, it is organised by the Parents’
Association. Accordingly, parents are legally responsible for their own child/children
on this activity.

payment and hand it in to your class teacher or the school office. We will confirm
your booking and send you the camp booklet.
